Anyone heading to LOTO June 27 for support troops run?

Kinda of last minute but thinking about packing up and heading down there. Just curious if anyone from MN will be heading down it would be nice to possibly caravan!

This would be our first time to LOTO..

Enforcer27 06-08-2014 09:23 AM

I ment to put in the title "from Minnesota ". I am sure there are lots of people going from other places.. :-)

Beachbum28 06-08-2014 08:11 PM

I hope your trip works out for you. LOTO is a great place to visit. I have participated in the poker run, it is a great cause, and very well organized. If you are looking for lodging Point Randall Resort is a great option. They are a family run resort with all the amenities, the covered docks are in great shape.

Another place for info about the lake and the poker run is Midwest Boat Party. Com They put on the poker run as well.

+1 on Point Randall Resort. Good people.

Griff 06-11-2014 01:31 PM

There are usually a few boats from Minneapolis/St Paul that come down for the SOT Poker Run.
I've done it every year since it started. I may have to miss it this year:( but still trying to figure out a way to attend..
Its a great run with a great group of people for a great cause.

Donzi Gal 06-16-2014 07:25 PM

We have a big group coming from MN! I can put you in contract with them if you like. It's a great way to see the lake for the fist time. We have 11 stops and you will get a guide from the lake if you follow a group. You can also take military members for a ride, which is a rewarding experience.

Enforcer27 06-18-2014 09:19 AM

Eddie... Let me know who is going. It is also nice to meet more mn fast boaters.. I think it is about 10 hrs from Duluth mn to LOTO.

How are gas prices down there? I would like to travel empty..

Enforcer27 06-18-2014 09:26 AM

Where should we stay for this weekend? Point Randell resort as said above?

Mentalpause 06-18-2014 09:44 AM

Last weekend cheapest 87 (10% ethanol) on the road was 3.27. A couple places have premium non ethanol on the road, HyVee is one and had it at 3.70. Gas on the water is almost all non ethanol, and it varies in price. I buy all my gas at Point Randall, he discounts it 10 cents a gallon if you buy at least 50 gallons. I can't remember what he had 87 at since I use 93. But plan about $4.00 a gallon for non ethanol 87 on the water. If you burn non ethanol 87 plan on buying it on the water, to my knowledge everyone on the road has ethanol in their 87 now.

Point Randall is a short run down the channel to H. Toads. Great owners, nice docks.

Point Randal is only got Friday night available I was hoping to stay Friday through Monday. What is the next best place???

Mentalpause 06-18-2014 07:33 PM

Lots of places if you look up rentals at LOTO. Parkview Bay and Land's End are large condo complexes, both with good docks. And several others, meaning hundreds of places overall.

We like to rent condos. I would recommend getting on VRBO.com and find a condo. I would recommend any of the following condos:
The Ledges, located at 20 MM , you can get a two bedroom for around $150/night, 3 bed about $200/ night
Parkview Bay, located roughly at 19MM , about same rates as above
Southwood Shores, located at 12MM, around $120-130 for 2 bedroom plus slip fees, can rent directly from condo management on site

You realize the Poker Run is Friday the 27th and starts around 9am???? http://midwestboatparty.com/pokerrun/
You would have to be down Thurs evening minimum.

You will get a lot more LOTO info on Midwestboatparty.com

Enforcer27 06-19-2014 11:46 AM

Yes I got the schedule now so we are heading down Thursday through Monday or Sunday. Looking at the vbro.com there are lots of rentals up and down. We're is the best point to be for the start and finish of the run? Does it matter?

BR44 06-19-2014 12:34 PM

Not this year but on the bucket list for next for sure.

On VRBO, check OsageBeach, Horseshoe Bend and possibly Lake Ozark.
Ideally somewhere in the 12-22mm area on the Osage Beach side.

Probably best off to stay as close to the 19mm as possible for a short ride back at the end of the night.

+ 1. You take off from the 7 MM of the main channel and end the day at the 19 MM.

Also, Parkview Bay on the Grand Glaize is only a mile away from Dog Days.

Enforcer27 06-20-2014 12:58 PM

What is dog days?? Use small easy to understand words I am from northern Minnesota..... Haha

We might have found a place on horseshoe bend. I think it's about 12mm. I assume those are miles so it would be 7 miles from the ending?

baditude 06-20-2014 01:17 PM

Dog Days bar/resteraunt is where the end of the run party is and card turn in.

Dog Days is the bar/restaurant on the water at the 19MM which hosts the end of day festivities. You will get dinner there, and poker run winners will be announced. But mostly folks have a few drinks, walk the docks and BS with each other. Land's end is just across from Dog Days. Parkview Bay is just under the bridge and about 1/4 mile down from Dog Days. Both would be great places to stay. If you are going to boat home from Dog Days after dark there is a 30mph speed limit after sunset. And it is enforced, and it also is a reason to make you blow if they think you have been drinking. The other rule the water patrol is picky about is no sitting on the sun pad/engine hatch when the boat is running.

Docks are everything! Name the places. I'd pick the 21 over the 12 for this event everything equal. You will likely put in at Public Beach 2, (PB2) which is in the state park off the 19MM on the main channel. You can leave your trailer there until you take out.

Ledges is a good rental complex located at 21mm. Easy to get to on land and water. Nice docks in protected cove.

I have launched my 28 Donzi many times there. My good friends who stay there launch their 32 Fountain and 35 Baja with no problem. After launching the boat we do not circle around the buildings, we exit the way we came in.

You will fall in love with LOTO! Stay in the 10-20 mm of the lake. Alot to do in that area. Many places to hang and listen to music. Try Robbins Resort, Gloden Reef, or Lands End. All good places and very close to most everything. Even the 120 store outlet mall. Enjoy!

Donzi Gal 06-24-2014 10:29 PM

Hope to see you guys there this weekend! :)
