Lake Cumberland, KY
Guys,
Don't really see a better spot for this.... Anybody spend any time on Cumberland? I hail from SW Ohio, but Cumberland is where I've done 99% of my boating. I've been on this lake literally since before I was born. We've got a picture of my mom, six months pregnant on a set of skis. Really :) Just curious. Thanks. Brad. Great boating area Can go for HOURS and HOURS in many directions. Surprisingly, I am not familiar with your location. I've been all over this lake, and your nomenclature doesn't ring a bell. What marina is that on? Thanks. Brad. Model Machine and Precision LLC (937)545-8991 |

Great boating area Can go for HOURS and HOURS in many directions. Never mind. I just googled it. Just upstream from the dam. I guess I didn't even realize there was a marina there. We spend most of our time up the South Fork. Our house is on the point between the North Fork and the Main Lake, Overlooking Burnside Marina. We put in at Conley Bottom when we want to go up the big end of the lake, particularly for the PokerRun. Been on Harmon and up to 76 Falls many, many times. Thanks. Brad. I think Glenamy got confused, (hence his deletion) Hu-B's is on Lake Barkley.

GlenAmy,
......... So much for my Googling skills.... And no wonder it didn't look familiar. Its on Barkley. I'll do better. Thanks. Brad. Model Machine and Precision LLC (937)545-8991 |
If I was interested in coming doing for a weekend this busy time of year how difficult or would it be possible to get a transient weekend dock on Cumberland?

not super difficult. Some marinas maybe more difficult than others. And depends if you want covered or open

Tee-Daves.
Except for the obvious busy weeks/weekends, it shouldn’t be a problem. I’d stay away from Rowena. It’s fairly new, and, from what I gather, it’s considerably more expensive than most others. Burnside is great if you wan the quieter end of the lake, but it’s always a PITA to secure a slip. It almost seems like they are trying to lose money. You’ll call on, say, Monday, wanting a slip for the upcoming weekend, and they’ll tell you you have to reserve “in person, day of”. Then you show up, they’ll be all booked, and the girl will tell you, “You should have called on Monday.” Jamestown, State Dock and Conley Bottom should always have something. From where do you hail? if you decide to make the trip, look me up. We might be down that weekend. We have a house overlooking Burside marina. Thanks. Brad. That's good to know. Any recommendations? I've never been down before and have always wanted to rent a houseboat but more recently have just wanting to bring my own boat.
BTW…. The Poker Run is the weekend after Labor Day. Always a great time and some serious hardware always seems to show up. Seen Tomlinson’s “My Way” there several times. Thanks. Brad. Model Machine and Precision LLC (937)545-8991 |
Guys,
Anybody planning on going to the Lake Cumberland Poker Run? Thanks. Brad. Model Machine and Precision LLC (937)545-8991 |
My wife and I are coming down from Michigan to check it out. Have a reservation at Lure and a slip at State Dock for the boat. Where is the best place to plan on putting in?

Thanks for the help. Is it safe to leave the truck and trailer at the launch for a long weekend?

At the State Park boat ramp on the way in. Lure Lodge is where the pink bed drop is.

So don't want to claim it is or isn't. Anything can happen. |
I put in at Jamestown and leave my truck and trailer there. Never any issues. They have some new covered slips for transient use and its been nice. Never had good service in the restaurant but the rest of the amenities seem nice.
State Dock is just as good if not better...restaurant will actually bring you the food you ordered LOL. |

We have a place near Burnside, which is the other end of the lake, so, we put in at Conley Bottom. It's about an hour run from there to the State Dock/Jamestown harbor. If you're planning on staying at the lodge and don't plan on using your truck (sounds like not), this might be a good option for you. We leave our truck and trailer there all weekend during the PokerRun, and we've never had any issues. It's a fairly busy marina, usually with ample parking. There's a fair bit of traffic, so there are lots of eyes keeping an watch on things. Thanks. Brad. Model Machine and Precision LLC (937)545-8991 |

Very busy getting out on Sunday though. People start lining up at 7am eastern. I am thinking about putting it at Conley this year. Longer boat ride but it shouldn’t be as crowded. |
Where does everyone stay for poker run? I’ve always stayed on my boat at Cumberland but don’t have my cruiser anymore. Needing some lodging and I’m bringing some out of town friends. I’ve read reviews on the houseboats and they are terrible…most the resort reviews seem almost as bad. Any really nice places to stay? Don’t care about price just want quality.

Don't know what you have in mind with "really nice places to stay", but you will not find a Holiday Inn, or anything such, anywhere near the lake. Sumerset/Burnside is as close to the lake as civilization gets, and it's a ways from StateDock. Where on the lake are you wanting to stay? If you want to be close to the StateDock, you're probably out of luck. If you don't mind a bit of a haul, we always put in at Conley Bottom, run the lake to the StateDock on Saturday morning (we don't do the actual PokerRun), and overnight it in our cuddy.. There are lots of little lodges around, especially that end of the lake, but I don't know what kind of accommodations they have, as far as community docks, ramp, lake access, etc. Try googling "lodging cumberland State Dock". Wolf Creek Marina doesn't have a public access ramp, but you might be able to secure a slip, it's fairly close to StateDock, and not too God awful far from Sumerset. Thanks. Brad. (937)545-8991 |
I normally stay on the boat at Jamestown. Have some friends coming with a center console so will need to come up with some other accommodations. I’ll dig around and see if we can find a house nearby.
