First Ride of a 30 with 300's
Hello All-
So I was able to get out for a few hours on Sunday and finally got a long run where I started feeling comfortable behind the wheel. This thing rocks! This is the most fun I have had drving a boat ever! Still getting use to it so I didn't go over 85mph, but it hanlded so well at any speed and water condition. I did have a couple questions though.... When getting on plane the props will slip lot and then they will hook up. At this point the boat will lean a little to the left. it takes about 10 seconds or so then the boat will jump a little and then level out. If there is a wave around it will level out easier. Does anyone know what is going on? Is there a way to correct this? Thanks Don |

Prop torque until you are going fast enough to pack more air under the tunnel?

If it is at slow speed it is just not planning one sponson. Does it feel like the boat is really leaning than just jumps up on one side? Thats what mine does sometimes. It depends on the weight in the boat and the trim. I just have fun with it now. I have had mine 2 years now and still learning tricks on driving it

Getting the weight equal from side to side will sometimes help. Also using some positve trim when taking off. But that won't always work. Mine will plan the left side first most of the time, but than the other side will plan first when least expect it. I just got use to it dong that and it does not bother me anymore. I wondered what was going on when I first got mine also. I just have fun with it now and see how long I can go leaning to one side. Passangers love it.

all the cats do that when getting on plane what I do is once on plane just hit the trim till it corrects......enjoy that bad boy and your sunday experience reminds me of my first.......

Props with most pitch will slip more than lower pitch props, going on plane. As the props are trying to hook up a wave will lift one sponson to keep that side slipping while the other side is effectively deeper and hooks up more.....Sometime, try a smaller pitch set of props..... Smaller pitch props may be a little more user friendly.....Of course, you may see a little reduction in top speed....Also, You might want to try turning the props out ....There again, may scrub a little speed....But, perhaps more stable....You can also try lowering the jack plates and raise them back up as you get familiar with the boat.......Just part of the deal...Good Luck

Aqua Banshee, You might price a new classic out of kevlar and epoxy. The classic is the original design.
BTW I have a dual tandem bumper pull that came with our 35. $4,500 , 8 near new radials,16", needs paint, brakes and rewire.$ 25-30,000 race trailer. We designed and built a patentable dual tandem gooseneck to replace that trailer. The new trailer is basiclly the same profile, except it is a gooseneck. Both have full length and width drive protectors, made out 1/4" steel diamond plate and etc. |
I have the exact same problem - scared the living crap out of me the first time it happened! 2.5 years later and she still does it - changed props, changed rotation (in vs out) nothing really seemed to matter - just on eof the quirks of the boat - no big deal.
I usually do one of two things to try and lessen it: (i) trim up to just below neutral once the boat initially comes over; looks for someone's wake... either way, I have not found one "aboslute" fix for this. |
I don't know anything about the 30. However, I do know a little about transom flex...If the transom flexs it changes toe in/out and would cause the props to bite and release, bite and release, effectively like the transom were spring loaded. At speed , flex would be less obvious, except for keeping the boat from running as well as it could. That is not to say the transom would break, just relocates the motors out of alignment. If that were happening, the fix shouldn't be to complicated.

i have a 35 with 500 efi xrs on boxes and does the same thing. give the down side a bit of negtive trim till she comes up seams to help me

The first time I put the boat on plane it did it to me...scared the **** out of me! I does it still about 75% of the time. The first couple of times I would let off the throttle, that only made it worse. The boat would actually drive in a circle. I am used to it now and tell me passengers that it may or may not happen....once the boat pops up you can see the relief in their face

My 30' motion drags a sponson with 4 blade props almost every time. With 3 blade props not very much. I do not find it to be much of a problem. If I get on plane easy it is more likely to drag one sponson. That said the 4 blades worked by BBlades run as fast as merc lab 3 blades and I believe they will be much easier on the lowers
