Diesels/

Does anybody know what diesels will be offered in the MTI 55 and what kind of performance can be expected?

Spine Tingler 06-27-2007 06:43 PM

All MtI's are built to customer needs. That's what makes it nice!

I need one for about 100k, any ideas? :drink:

On second thought, I'll just take yours and you can start over.......I mean how long can it take , right? :drink:

FROGMAN524 06-27-2007 08:32 PM

Right. So I'd specifiy Cat C32's. 1800hp and who knows how much torque. :D

sellsman11 06-28-2007 12:37 PM

Wellllll......I have had this conversation with Randy before. Depending on the weight of that C32, it is very very doable. Ideally the 55' would be rigged with power that weighs 2000lbs or less per side. I am no diesel genius but I would bet the C32 weighs more than that. You also could rig a single diesel powerplant putting out 1800 HP connected to 2 seperate surface drives. Performance would be directly related to the overall weight of the power.

I believe the 39' with diesel power ran in the mid 80's.

Just as long as it's pre-painted. Which, BTW, is sounding promising.

I did a little research last night and found the same info. There are better diesel power plants for a performance application.

DirtyMoney 06-29-2007 04:43 PM

seatek

Jassman 07-01-2007 07:30 AM

What about trying a few of the Yanmars, actually 4 of them. I had 2 in my 4300 V, 480/935 very reliable, good resale and are warrantied at many area's. Good luck:cool:

TeamTaboo 07-02-2007 07:40 PM

39' MTI ran 92mph it should of had a 2 speed gearbox. I think it could have gone a 100 with some major work.

FROGMAN524 07-04-2007 08:31 PM

Is seatek a good brand of diesel power?

FROGMAN524 07-04-2007 08:37 PM

http://www.seatek-spa.com/950plus_gb.htm a couple of these would do the trick. :D

They are good for blowing up!

Other than that, no

It would be like buying a high strung motor...1400hp..., and expecting it to last more than 100 hours without any problems. Yanmar and Cummins are the way to go, higher reving diesels 3200-3400rpms, great hp to torque ratio, dealer network for servicing and most of all, excellent resale. Jeff

DirtyMoney 07-19-2007 05:12 PM

What about the IMCO Duramax?

bob 07-19-2007 08:48 PM

If less than 2000# is the target weight, looks like you are into a low hp diesel or a higher hp wanna be diesel. You could get into a Cat C7/3126E that would have torque around 900#' and weigh 1800# or so. Now you could get into a Cat C13 and get torque close to 2000#' and have a weight of around 2600# :D .

The Banks is suppose to be out in a week or so, but they are coming out with their highest hp version first. I would like a lower hp verson with more durability, then I could put 3 in my next Nortech V, vs the 2 Yanmars I had. Jeff

Does anybody knows what kind of power the banks marine duramax is making?

BTW, these would be your C-32's  Dry weight w/ gear 7000 lbs. each.
They push an 80' along ok.

How fast is 'ok'?

Weismann's 6speed gearbox would have put you at 100 or better.

TeamTaboo 05-29-2009 12:27 PM

Catmando we ran 102 but had a hard time getting on plain. 92 was the best with the boat getting up. A 2 speed gearbox wood do the trick. ( hard time means about 2 miles)

Two miles to plane  you definitely needed a low gear...

I have heard that the Duramax's just make too much heat over 400-500hp and start melting down. The other company that has some duramax conversion parts it www.pacificp.com . If they could make 700HP reliably out of a Duramax I would be a buyer. It would be a real trip to see a Cat in the 120+ range with a diesel!

Brad Zastrow 06-01-2009 12:04 PM

Diesels make no sense in a light weight high performance cat. If you want to burn diesel fuel get a turbine.

Weren't the Class1 diesel hulls on a par with Skater in terms of weight? Without the engines of course lol.

I've always liked turbines. Except for price they make sense on so many levels.
