I plan to start a thread when it is complete. I have not touched the boat in a month. But plan to get more done soon. After all my boating does not start for five more months. I think the topless conversion will be nice. Here is a teaser photo

are you just taking to top off or you going 6 seater????

Brad Zastrow 11-28-2008 12:16 AM

Top off only. I have been in a six seater and do not care for it. I like the looks of the smaller cockpit. More sporty.

Brad,
Why are you removing the canopy?

Now that we are dialed in & running solidly into the mid 150s and still pulling with 300 rpms left on the table."I guess I need bigger kahoona's" as the mid 50s seems more than fast enough for me running an open rig.

We have been looking into adding our power to an x race canopy boat to run shoot outs and poker runs in a safer manor..

I understand that getting in trouble at these speeds open or closed will be a crap shoot, but don't we have a better chance with a roll cage and canopy?

I know you are running way faster than we are,are you de- tunning your rig?

Just wondering?

Good luck with your project!

I think a canopy boat is much safer. However I wanted something different. The canopy looks very cool, but in reality the heat is too much without A/C and it is loud. Also very intimidating for my wife to get into what she thinks is an all out race boat.

Brad,
I never really considered the heat and added noise factors,AC while running ouch, only the safety factors constantly being drilled into my head ever weekend by a few of my Skater friends, X boat racing buddies.

I understand that this is supposed to be fun as well. It is easy to loose that perspective I did it a few years back in drag racing when we went from my 10" door slammer to the Pro Mod car.Sold it all!

Looks like you are finding that happy medium, good luck and thanks for sharing your project with us.I'm not sure we really want a canopy boat now, defiantly makes me reconsider.

Sorry for the thread hijack, that CRC rig is sweet as hell!

A Canopy Boat Is Safer As Long As You Have A Dive Team Along

Brad Zastrow 12-01-2008 02:22 PM

I have heard the dive team issue before also. I can tell you I would much rather take my chances with drowning in a full canopy pleasure boat in a high speed incident than getting tossed out of a boat at a buck fifty. At least you have a chance in a canopy with belts on. Even in race conditions the divers rarely need to pry somebody out of boat unless the worst has happened.
However that taken into account I still want the fun factor with my boat, hence no top. The CRC is a partial conversion and that is really nice also. The CRC price seems reasonable for what your getting.

ya well you have to see it in person

I Know The Top Is Carbon Or Are They All Carbon

Brad Zastrow 12-02-2008 04:13 PM

My 39 race could be the same as 39 CRC. I have a carbon fiber hull , deck and canopy. At least the canopy that was..

carbon decks and canopies with glass bottoms back then on most of those scl's...

Brad Zastrow 12-03-2008 09:41 PM

I thought I mentioned the conversion was the small cockpit. I toyed with even making it a five seater like some of the MTI's are with the small cockpit. That would have involved cutting out the arm rests in the back cockpit liner and more glass work. I was thinking of doing that for resale value latter on. But this boat is for me.....and I really, really like the small four seat cockpit. I think the orignal MTI designs are incredible. Besides I do not have that many friends and do not need a six seater.

Every where I have been grinding on this boat has been black carbon fiber including the hull when I filled in the escape hatch on the hull and cockpit liner. It seems the outer layers are carbon and the inner layer Kevlar on the cored areas The bulkheads and in some areas it has been kevlar. Mine is a 2004.

Did the CRC boat sell?

It is not listed anymore. I had called a few weeks back on it and the number was interesting.
