First time in MTI today!
Was lucky enough to go for a ride in a 42 today. Mainly just gotta say....WOW:eekdrop:! That was my first big cat experience. It is certainly way different than a big V!
It was a calm day on the Chesapeake Bay so there was no real pucker factor to speak of. The boat was unbelievable stable. We went into the 1 teens+ a couple times and the GPS was still climbing pretty quickly when we slowed down. I raised my top speed on the water today thats for sure! Feel very luck to have had the chance to experience that. BTW, dont yell at me...I did take pics but cant upload here. I guess I need to pay more to OSO first? Ill work on that. John |
Congrats! Who's boat were you in?
|
Craig, I was on Ray's boat.

I'm jealous. I've never ridden in a Cat and am dying to to see how it compares to my slow ass CIG

Had Fountains for last 5-6 years running well over 100 and I took a ride with a friend in a 42 MTI last year w/ 1100's and as you can see by my avatar... I am now a owner! It is an amazing ride for sure. I just can't wait until poker run season gets kicked off where I can get some seat time.

Gofastlvr, love your boat i looked at it several times on Pier57 website, congrats on her and look forward to seeing her out on the water. Pat |
The big cat is certainly a different animal. What I really like about his boat is its usability. Considering it has 900's and does 120+. It still has seating for 8, a full head, queen bed, swim platform with ladder, blender, big stereo etc. Ough yeah and its quiet. Two sets of mufflers on the 900's make it really quiet. Well until you get the blowers humming above 3000-3500. But by then all you can hear is wind!
It was a little chilly! John |
Thanks to all for your kind words , this boat just gets better as I get more seat time . It feels fast ,safe and stable . The quiet part and the huge seating area are a big plus too . :ernaehrung004:

i was just hanging on on the back seat but it was awsome:eekdrop:

+1 The boat really is pretty amazing, and the way they ride, the first thing everyone says when you get to 100 is "So this what 100 feels like? Feels a lot slower..." |

Hey Charlie , glad you guys enjoyed your ride . It was good seeing you , let's do it again soon
|
Well, last weekend on the Hero poker run in Solomons Island, Md. Ray was gracious enough to take me and a couple of my friends for a ride. First I'll say I have a whole new respect for anything that is capable of 100+ mph, second I completely agree with Charlie (RAPTOR1) I would never step foot on a boat like this unless it was in capable hands, and Ray is about the most capable I have met.
The fastest I have gone before was in Ray's 41 Velocity, "the bus", and this boat shattered that speed and with Ray at the wheel felt eerily safe in the one teens. We came for the races but nobody could stop talking about that ride! It was a great experience and even better being surrounded by great people! The Dirty Duck is an impressive machine, seating for 8, Queen bed, and god knows what its capable of! We were running fairly conservative and couldn't help but get there first, or damn close to it!! UNREAL!!!! Thanks again Ray and crew for the ride of a lifetime! :Score-101010: |
Thanks for the kind words Joe , it's a joy for me to have this boat . The way it rode in the river felt very safe and comfortable for all 8 of us . It's nice to cruise at those speeds and not work the equipment very hard . Plus the quiet part is a big plus for all on board . You're welcome back anytime , hope to see you again soon . Also send our best to Angelo and Sherry , we had a great time . :ernaehrung004:

The difference between a cat and a V is interesting. They both have their advantages and drawbacks but I don't think I'll ever go back to a V now that I've gotten used to handling the cat. |
When Eric (Seaford guy) posted that back in the spring , I sent him a PM invite to go for a ride . He hasn't been here yet , but it was an open invitation . Season is almost over for me around here this year . :cool-smiley-011:

I would have thought we'd have gotten up to DC to visit my wifes father some during last boating season but he came to us a couple times and we never made it. I will definitely take you up on your offer next season (assuming it is still open at the time!). |

While it's not a 40+ foot MTI if you'd like to try out a cat sometime hit me up next spring and I'd be more than happy to have you out on my 32. I live in Chesapeake and I know we boat in a lot of the same areas...

Was more impressed with the 40ss skater

The boat their talking about has stand up head, king size bed, stand up cuddy and seating for 8+. I have carried 11 Miami to KY with luggage for 13 for a week on one of those boats. A 40 skater is more compareable to a 42/44 MTI RP. And while the RP pleasure has the same bottom as the SUV model they rode on, the ride is not comparable due to the CG difference and the sit down seating and windshield on the RP version. |

Mlb - Thank you for the offer. My buddy in Smithfield actually has a 32 Spectre that I'll be going out on in the springs. He runs about 105 I believe with a pair of egg-beaters on the back. Its a very cool boat - every time he turns his head sideways at speed, he loses a pair of sunglasses!!
One of these days I'd love to get a ride on a bigger cat as well to see the difference. I'm sure they ride differently just wonder if the added expense would be worth it. |
Did a few events and was able to take along 6-8 people with room to spare . Not set up to run with the sit down windshield boats . Heck we're talking king size bed , pump out head and a blender . It does get on plane at 20 mph , and will cruise all day at 100 . Set up with mild reliable motors it's a 120+ pleasure boat . She may not be the fastest , but my friends and I are very comfortable . :ernaehrung004:

Exactly what I'd want in a Cat - be able to spend the night on it, take along a good size crew, and still cruise 80-90. Head is a MUST for me as is moderate power. Blender sounds like a recipe for disaster - I'd have to put Daquari colored interior in it to cover the stains that would be sure to appear late at night.
How would something like this handle the rough compared to my 35 Cafe? Ray, in the rough how is the ride in the MTI handle compared to your Velocity or Fountain? I wish I didn't have other priorities stacked in front of my next boat purchase. MLB - Yeah I was talking about Livengood. I thought his was a 32 actually...... |
I love my cat , it is the most fun I have had with a boiat yet . The pleasuse layout and mufflers make it very user friendly . We mostly only go out in light to moderate seas , and it has a great ride . The staggard 41 Velocity smashed through big water like no other ride I have ever been on . I know you can run cats hard in rough water but I am not comfortable enough to try that myself yet . Your invitation for a ride is good anytime
|
She's up for sale in the classifieds ,can be bought complete or less power . Fun boat that is ready to go and runs great , any reasonable offers considered .
