Great stuff Jay, looks like a fun time.
one question, how they get that junk out of the water after each "Record Setting Attempt"? |
Thanks for all the nice comments, guys.

one question, how they get that junk out of the water after each "Record Setting Attempt"? They would spring into action almost as soon as the craft hit the water, or at least right after the crew members who were so inclined to jump in after, did so. :drink: This shot shows some of the cleanup going on... those guys are nowhere near the landing area, the telephoto can fool you on depth sometimes. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4136/...a31bfe4a_b.jpg |
Thanks for the pics jay!! The flugtag will be in long beach ca on aug 21st. We're going to put the Cig in and watch from the water.
What was the time eliment like? What time start and end? I'll snap some pics when we go but I'm sure nothing like yours! :drink: |

Based on what I saw in Miami, you will probably need to get there a couple hours early to get a good spot. We were right on the rail of the spectator area, but had to get there at 9:15 to claim the territory. Standing in one place for 5+ hours was a killer on my feet...once the crowd packed in there was hardly room to turn around, much less think about going anywhere. A boat is definitely the way to do this event. Here's an overhead view of the place taken from the Red Bull website. |
Yesterday I started a group on flickr for the flugtag and it is starting to take off. :drink:
As of now, 14 members and nearly 150 photos added in one day. For some different views and a more comprehensive look at this unique event you can check it out here. (the slideshow is a cool way to see all the pix) http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4115/...5c101262_b.jpg |
I saw that Redbull wrestling ring on a flatbed going down I95 Friday. Thought it was a bit small....never thought it would try to fly.... :D
When I went last time down here in '04 they didn't let the boats anywhere near as close as this year. MUCH better this time... |

I couldn't believe that they had seen the shots already and were actually calling me. They are from Lauderdale, so you may see them again- the act was hilarious. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4074/...1144c89d_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4135/...8fa9c90c_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4117/...109d3bc8_b.jpg |

I've never been to an event quite like it.
There were police directing traffic, but I only saw two all day in a crowd that size. They weren't necessary, though- everyone was laughing and having a lot of fun. Truly a unique event. Did I mention the girls on trampolines? http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4099/...750728ba_b.jpg Thanks Jay. |
