Damm shame. Glad to hear Mark and Scott are ok. Only thoose who have been thru similar circumstances can understand how big a loss this is to a race team, both emotionally and financialy. Remember the important thing is a new boat can be built but not a new Mark and Scott. Stay strong team Gieco.

There should be a way to blow the bilge drain as a last ditch effort to save the hull. It's not like the boat will sink but simply bob in the water but at least the fire won't burn it to the waterline! Glad everyone is okay! The only thing that might have helped was if they could have somehow flipped it upside down. Water would have cooled and extinguished what it came in contact with, and trapped air oxygen (not counting the bottles) would be all used up. Too bad TowBoat US wasn't johnny-on-the-spot for that effort. I hear they are great at flipping boats! |
towing it backwards could of sunk it too but the heat from the fire was probably too overwhelming to do anything but jump over board.
