I am flying over to Cali Wed to give it a visual inspection. Financing is all ready arranged, title is at the bank, transportation is pretty much arranged. I just have to give it a once over to see if there is something the guy isn't telling me. Says it has been sitting for over a year, Hasn't seen water in close to 2. Has a hurt engine. None of that is an issue for me. I am more interested in it's past history when it still raced and if anyone knew how many owners it had had since it was racing.

Anything it had done after racing or during it' career. I want to use it for poker runs away from home.

Any info would be great. I am excited about bringing it into the fleet. It will make a great big sister for the Magnum. :coolcowboy:

So you are the one who outbid me. :angry-smiley-038: I think that was the original Mab Paints boat. Raced in 1999 in Factory 2. Brett (Miccosukee) would know. Then John in Port Richey raced it in P2 class before selling to the guy in Cali. Boat is light and fast. I think they built the boat after watching us race our own 38 Superfast in F2 during the 1998 season. Our boat is still running in Belgium and actually raced P1 last year.

Trond and Nils built me a duplicate a couple of years ago. I stupidly sold it to a piece of $%@%@#$ overseas who ripped me off on the trade. But that is a story for a different day.

Still the 38 Superfast is my favorite boat of all time! You will absolutely love it. Enjoy...you bastard. :grinser010:

It won't cost much to fix that engine these days, so I am hoping to have it back together pretty soon after I go look at it and make sure it is OK. It should make a good big sister to my Magnum.

Nor Tech told me that it ran 85 with those stock 500's in it. It should be a handful with the blowers.

Hmmmm. It should run closer to 90 with the stock 500's. We were running those speeds back when the only prop choice was 29" three blade Mirage Plus.

I understand it ran over 100 with the blowers and handled pretty well. PM Steve Miklos and he can give you John's number. John put the blowers on the boat.

Whatever you do, leave the drives on the transom. No boxes. My new 38 did not like the boxes and high X. You may have to drive it a little bit but it is a fun boat that will not bite you if you stay on top of it. Enjoy. Very cool boat.

Good info. I am really excited to add it to the fleet. I hope it has not deteriorated from sitting over the last year. I have a set of 520HP engines to put into it and a set of dry stellings while I fix the old engines.

I run high 80's all day with a full cabin and cockpit with my 525 & XR's. I love the boat. Hull is super fast and very stable at speeds. Lot's of luck with it.

I just realized that apparently I can't spell for chit.

Anyway. I looked at it last Wed before I left for Bimini. Paint still shines, but it had a lot of dock rash. It should buff out. There are a lot of paint chips down at the edge of the strake. It still shines though so if I can buff through the dock rash it will clean upp nicely on the outside. Upholstery is a .5 out of 10. It is really terrible. It has been sitting un covered in the boat yard. You can see where the cover was folded up in the sun and it is faded.

Engines turned over very smoothly. Cusious as to why his mechanic said they were blown. Doesn't crank like there is a dead hole. The starbord engine did get very hot though. It has expected light corrosion on drives etc. Looks like sportmasters and XR's, ao that is good.

Leaving tomorrow for Cali to go pick it up.

Can;t wait to get started on this one.

scarab600 06-03-2010 07:14 PM

Hey Mike what was your setup. I had 720hp 32 hydro 5 blade 2in shortys with 1 in spacers running 92 mph. Now I have 830 hp but no top speed yet.

Use to Love watching you and Adib fly by us back in those days. That boat looked beautiful...

John actually called me this evening. Thanks for the call John. He said it ran 83 with 1000HP. That is good enough for me right now. I am ditching the engines for a new pair that I have had sitting around in my shop. Transporter is picking it up on Friday, so maybe I will have it in the middle of the week.

jeff1000man 07-11-2010 08:55 PM

It's here. I started a new thread for posting pics and info during the restoration. THe paint on this thing is incredible. Still shines like brand new. Clear is miles deep.

jeff1000man 07-14-2010 06:34 PM

Port engine runs perfectly so far

The starboard engine fired off a few minutes ago like there was nothing wrong with it. After a few revs though it started popping and sputtering.

Guess I'll investigate some more tonight after I write some more files, and pay some more bills. Boat is starting to intruige me. :coolcowboy:

Stay tuned.

Had another offer come in on them today. After today though, I really want to run them and see what kind of nuts this boat has before I take it apart.

Very nice boat Jeff. I drove it some between John putting additional clear coats on the puppy. I swear he must have had a 55 gallon drum of clearcoat on it.

Handles great, and yes, that is the old MAB Paints boat (Brett F). With the blowers and intercoolers that thing ran over 100 when he could keep from blowing drives. (Felt like driving a large Allison)

Glad to see it getting taken care of.

We have been hard at it every evening this week. The bilge is back to looking awesome. Touched up a bunch of bad spots with some white gel coat. All lines and hoses etc are all in place. Been rigging my little 496/ 520HP engines to go into it as I got some last minute sales on all my other engines last month.

The flooring was terrible, so I pulled that out, interior is back out. A friend of mine is going to sand and gel coat the entire floor and gunnels etc. Basically everything you can see in bright white gel coat. Should make all the difference in the world in the way it looks inside.

I keep finding some little parts that I used to have that are turning up missing. Keeps throwing my install date of the first engine back. God willing the first engine should be in saturday or Sunday. I need to calculate a few more things once I get the first engine in, and crossing the fingers that the Stellings fit the way I have them set up. Then I can get the second engine in mid week and start shaking it down. I am hoping to bring it to FL for the KW poker run.

Even if I can't find a crew. :bsflag: Hell I'll do it SOLO.

Keep praying for me to stay focused. Still got a lot of work to do. :coolcowboy::coolcowboy:

I Just saw that you are in Conroe. I was in Houston all week and left this evening. Would have loved to stop by and check out your progress.

Sorry to hear so much went wrong with the boat. It was very solid when John had it here in Florida.

The only thing that went wrong with it was that it had a very neglecting owner. He basically blew one of those engines and then pu t it out in a storage yard to rot. Sat there for allmost 2 years before he decided to get rid of it. Thanks goodness it was in Cali. It would have rotted if it was anywhere else.

Trying to get in touch with someone at Stellings so I can maybe get some parts overnighted here so it doesn't slow me up anymore. We are rushing to get it done, but taking the time to make sure it gets done right.

Jeff,

Can't seem to upload pictures here anymore, but I uploaded a couple here when John (in Ft. Meyers) owned the boat.

It looks amazing in those pics. I hope it looks like this once again soon.. :coolcowboy:

For a budget build, the boat is really starting to look good and come together nicely. It will be a sweet looking ride anyway.

We painted the entire inside of the boat with that 2 part epoxy paint that Roper turned me on to. You need sunglasses in there. I wish I would have done the entire bilge before we re rigged it, but there is always net year.

I took the camera with no mamory card. :bsflag:

I'll get pics tomorrow. or stop by tomorrow afternoon/ evening. I will still be going strong.

1 big shipment from JEGS and 1 shipment from NAPA, and 1 shipment from Eickert and everything should be here that I need.

Eng1 is ready to go minus the water plumbing.

Eng2 still needs a full dress, but all the parts will be here tomorrow.

Gonna be a good day tomorrow if I can get someone to help me guide the engine in. Hard to drive the forklift and bolt in the engine at the same time.. :party-smiley-004:
