pulling a 36 nortech up the boat ramp?
Will a single axle simi truck pull a 36 nortech up a boat ramp?

Depends on the ramp. A Ford Ranger would do it on some.
Others might need a D55 cat. |
I use a sport chassis when I pulled the boat out of the water last weekend on a wet slippery ramp it never even spun the tires!

I will have the answer to your question in a week. I am taking my Talon to Havasau for the Desert Storm run with my International single axle tractor. First time pulling it. I hope it works out. My Kodiak 4500 pickup had no problem so I hope this is a good decision to change tow rigs. I do still own the Kodiak but the overall length is 67' 10 inches and my seasonal wide load permit only supports 65 ft. in California. This was the latest towing problem while pulling thru a scale. I need to pass by the scale on the way to the delta so my new to me tow rig combination is 64' 10".

So I have to stop at weight stations? How much was your seasonal permit?

I used to pull a 20 thousand pound boat up a steep ramp daily with a 1/2 ton conversion van . Grow a pair.

Will not know for two days. Heading out now. Was Mr. T in that conversion van with you? That would explain the extraordinary traction and towing capability.

The tractor does not have a locking rear axle so I will have one installed. Probably add a 1000 lbs. to the bed somehow. Another work in progress. The Talon ran fine so life is good.

yep my Broke Dik POS 1/2 ton van had a locking rearend..It would pull 20 thousand up the ramp better than my non-locking 4 wheel drive because all the weight was over the lockin axle. Up a a wet steep ramp 5-6 days a week for many years. But what do I know? |
Guess I need one of those Scubby Doo mystery wagon vans that pulls 20 thousand pounds. I will test it before purchasing! Just posting my results of my quest of trying to legally tow a wide load safely in California. It has been a struggle.

27, lack of 4wd is a b!tch. I would think a 350 dually would cover that pretty easy, no? If not, a 450 or 550 wouldn't pull that 37 legally? Looks like major overkill, lol Sharp looking rig though! :cool:

I have a 4500 Kodiak that I was busted in for being over length on an annual California wide load permit. The international does a better job, not as pretty. The Kodiak is for sale.

A new one ton dually would pull the Talon but would be over 65 feet long overall, not legal in Cal. and would cost somewhere north of 60 grand. My International will pull and stop better at a quarter of the cost. Best choice in tow vehicles that I have made. I now have a truck to only tow my boat and an enclosed car hauler.

I had to pull the freightliner up the ramp with a dodge four wheel drive. Same problem. No weight and no locking rear end. I'm sure it's on u tube. There was 100 people watching. I was really hoping u would've got back with me sooner lol
