Nor-Tech 340 with Twin 300's vs. Triples
Could sure use some advice. I'm looking to buy a 340 Sport Center Console but my budget is somewhat limited. I came across a 2016 with twin 300 Mercury's that I can afford. We plan to use it in South Florida cruising around and running to the islands.
I've heard the boat is more stable with triples but would love to hear from guys who have some real experience (or hearsay). At my age I don't need to lead the pack but I don't want to be too far behind. Many thanks! |
Costs less to operate and will retain more of its value.

I have a 2014 which came with twin 300s. I repowered to 400s last year, the difference in how the boat ran is documented in a thread you will find here in the NorTech section. The twin 300s will be fine. For Florida offshore boating the 3rd engine would be nice to have. We are on LOTO where 2 engines is just fine..

I have the 2015 triple boat in the classifieds and I have a lot of seat time in a twin 300 boat prior to owning mine. Of course I will be bias but the difference between twins and triples is very noticeable at all speed ranges, to me for the cost difference I would not consider a twin 300 boat. I don't type much but i'd gladly talk to you about it, seven 0 five four 99 18 five one.

34 Nortech T/300 Yamahas
I have a 34 Nortech with Twin 300 Yamahas for sale. If your looking for top speed its hard to compare with a triple engine 34 .. Water conditions in S Florida dont normally allow speeds above 40 mph as a comfortable cruise in a 34 ft boat . Obviously there are calm days were you can cruise faster but they seem to be few and far between! I have also owned and sold several 35 Statement Center consoles with T/300’s .. 90% of my customers love them and the boat does everything in needs to do 90% of the time.. the other 10% will spend the extra money to go faster 10% of the time they boat. I think you received some solid feedback from several Nor-Tech owners, I'm just not sure I agree w/ a twin engine NT 340 retaining its value better than a triple.
The resale market for a triple engine NT 340 is far greater than that of a twin engine. This may all come full circle if new boat buyers choose to order their NT 340's w/ T-Mercury 450R's but it's going to be awhile before we know that. |

I don’t disagree but the fuel consumption, power to weight ratio & less maintenance will still make it attractive to some. |
