Nortech V43 with diesels

Hi!

Just curious; today in Lillesand Norway we were lucky to take a closer look at a Nortech V43 with triple Yanmar 300 HP diesels. It runs in the upper 60-ties.

Would it be possible to mount two Yanmar LY Series 6LY2AM-STP (440HP/370kW) engines, and if so - what kind of speed should be expected? I presume 900 HP with two engines / outdrives is faster than 900 HP with three engines / outdrives.

Would it be possible to mount two Yanmar LY Series 440 HP in Nortech V 38? And if so, what kind of speed should be expected?

According to a friend of mine who is a marine mechanic, you can boost the HP of the LY Series 6LY2AM-STP (440HP/370kW) to almost 500 HP without loosing to much longvity (those engines runs 10.000 hrs anyway..).

Cheeers, Toffen G

We have not installed twin 440's in a 43V yet. However a similar set up in a 50V ran about 2 MPH faster than the triple 315. It is a little more expensive and requires either Arneson Drives or Merc VI's to handle the torque. Both have their advantages. The triple can still plane and run on two engines. If you lose one of the twins it's idle time.
We no longer build the 38 but will introduce a new 39 this fall. It should handle twin 440's w/ Arnesons. I would think 80 MPH would be realistic.

Terry, whats it like getting on plane w/Arnesons, is it as quick as with #6's. How is it for docking, Thanks Jeff

Now the 39 with diesels is a very interesting idea Terry, you didnt mention that when we talked, Ive gotta think about that one.Being in the heavy constuction business makes the diesel thing worth considering. Are the 440s and Arnesons close to the same dollars as 525s with XRs ?

Going on plane and off plane w/ ASD is amazing. The bow barely raises. Now that is on the 50 which is going to have more leverage at the bow. I don't think it will be much different w/ the 43. For the most part docking is no problem. However in a strong wind it's gets a little tougher and your looking for the bow thrusters. Overall I was pleased with the set up.
Dave, The 440 ASD package is about double the 525XR price. The 315 Yanmar and Bravo price is the same as the 525. Keep in mind with the ASD package you have trannies and big props too! If you put a lot of hours on it will pay off in the long run.

Hi!

New 3900 Nortech with twin 500 Yanmars + Arnesons (incl. Herring 6 blades) runs 78 mph in saltwater.

After doing some reserch, I feel those speeds are pretty good. That boat is a very big 39. More like 40+. I believe I read somewhere on here that a 388 Hustler achieved 82, so right in line. POST SOME PICS. :D Thanks Jeff

Terry, will these work in a 4300 in a trip application. they appear to be the same size as a 600 Merc motor. 400 hp and 948 tq at a higher rpm of 4000. What do you think. Jeff

Looks interesting. Given the size trips should work.
