Turnin' up the Heat(s)
2 Attachment(s)
Here are two of my weekend projects...
The 496HO with 3.3L Whipple is a full up Larry Peto build (pan to blower) and dyno'd out a +750hp. Exactly what was anticipated. The second is the beast...We'll be looking at getting right at the century mark with this set up :evilb: Dave |
Re: Turnin' up the Heat(s)
I love the clean look of the Whipple. :D
Anything else looks "jury rigged". :( |

Dave,
The 548 needs a bigger intercooler! Both look awesome  . Keep us posted on how they run! Steve |

Re: Turnin' up the Heat(s)
Hey Linnie,
We have been getting pounded pretty good about every three days but the nice thing is the next day it's 60 and the snow is gone. I'm glad I got the bathroom remodeled before I started; That was the compromise :drink: I've got the 565ci motor (the other project) just about put back together and I think the guy wants to go with the CMIs. That will take a couple weeks and we should be ready to fire it off. We are hoping to see 625hp out of this lazy Bulldog  Do you have your cams back in yet? Dave |
Re: Turnin' up the Heat(s)
Got the cams Tuesday, Waiting on one head gasket. Took one head off to check the compression. Ended up that I was at 9.4 so I left it alone. Those adjustable regulators I got from Hardin look to be easy to install but difficult to adjust. Keep posting the results

Re: Turnin' up the Heat(s)
Well the R-Tech setup is "almost" there
Great trip with some good Heat results at Desert Storm... Knowing that the new Merc labbed 32 was not going to be sufficient we searched all over Lake Havasu City for a stock 32 Bravo with no luck at all. Nordic was even going to wholesale us one until they couldn't find one. So off with a Mercury Racing labbed 32 from Bob at Full Throttle Marine he went. As Bob mentioned on the phone the prop felt doggy as most Merc labs do on this boat. (We had Bob try it on his Heat setup before shipping it out to us) Jason the owner found this to be true as well. With seven people and full tanks 87.5 was the best he could pull and said it felt like it was nosing down. They tied the boat up at ran up to the Propeller Factory in Havasu City and the guy added some substantial cup and it was time to try again. Nordic Heats love cup!! Same load and 93+ on the recall but still right on the 5900 rev limiter. Note this is at a mild ~7 lbs of boost. One more trip to town and the guy tweaked it more but said that was about all he could do. This guy would not take a dime from Jason for the tweaking so Jason swung him buy some cold goodies for the help. Jason dumps the load and left him and one other in the boat and pulled 97.1 on recall "and" on the limiter again  I have no doubt in my mind that a stock 32 will achieve his goal easily :( Downside is right after that run there was the infamous click, click, click. This time it was off to Max Machine on Saturday morning at 7:30. Arron and Jason from Max turned Jasons boat around by lunch and it was only $800. Broke two teeth on the uppers. This was the Poker Run morning. :D Upside to this story. Jason rode in our Flame for the morning stops and was able to collect his cards before getting his boat back to run the afternoon run. Well as fate would have it, Jason won third place and collected thirtyfive $100 bills Saturday night :evilb: :evilb: Busy weekend but very, very fun :drink: Anyone have a spare 32 (stock) laying around? Dave |
Re: Turnin' up the Heat(s)
Great results. What kind of HP is the RTech set up producing? Glad you guys had a good time at the poker run.

Re: Turnin' up the Heat(s)
Awesome,
Congratulations Jason and great #s Dave :D . Are you guys still using the stock XR case? It would be interesting to see what an Imco would do. Are you running standard X dimension (19 1/4#s on mine), or have you added a spacer? Best Regards, Steve |
Re: Turnin' up the Heat(s)
If you do eBay,HERE is a guy with a bunch of them for $463 each.

Re: Turnin' up the Heat(s)
Magic, we calculated 850hp based on fuel usage at near 5000 feet elevation. I wasn't able to run a data log at Havasu which is 600 feet which equates to an 18% increase so I'm assuming a lot
Steve, the X dimension is the same as all the others as far as I can tell. It would indeed be interesting to try an IMCO lower to see what it would do. Thanks Jim... I'll pass that on. Thanks, Dave |
Re: Turnin' up the Heat(s)
Dave,
At 97 that blunt XR case can't be too efficient. I'm glad he's not blowing out. The prop man must know what he's doing. The faster you go, the more they (nose cone cases) help. In my case just one MPH, but Jason is 10+ MPH faster............. Just a thought. Looks like you guys will be seeing 100 soon! Best Regards, Steve |
Re: Turnin' up the Heat(s)
That awesome 850 plus HP. That elevation has to be a kick in the seat of the pants!

Re: Turnin' up the Heat(s)
Hi Dave:
Glad to hear you had some fun in Havasu. You guys are pros, taking all obstacles in stride. Congrats on third prize. Did you know the other Rtech boat (Colby's 28 Profile cat with 525EFI) won second prize? Is there a pattern here, can I use this as a selling feature? :D Just yesterday we tested a stock 540 bulldog (500 HP) with the same supercooler, a Vortech V-4 and a Nickerson carb. It made 850 corrected HP @ 5400 RPM (804 observed HP with 90F air entering the blower). The only tuning we had to do was adjust fuel pressure and reduce plug gaps. Your numbers will be better with aluminum heads, roller and more RPM. Hot Boat came and took pictures of Colby's boat. I'm sorry we didn't get Jason's boat hooked up on that deal. Maybe next time. Tom Hi Clay: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...we like the look of the dyno sheets! :evilb: |
Re: Turnin' up the Heat(s)
Hey Tom,
I was sad to get your voice mail on Monday morning :( I ended up taking Thursday off to prepare for the run. I sould have given you my cell number. Good numbers on that Bulldog for sure. Figure on Jason's with the Valako full worked Canfields, roller cam, 5900 rpm etc, we are probably around the 1000 mark. Jason said as far as he could see  he was only pulling 7-8 gauge lbs which is what we were pulling up at elevation but only showing 139kPa. I'm sure he was closer to 160kPa at Havasu. (I think we bet a beer on that one :drink: ) So if you have an R-Tech you get good poker run cards and a whole lot of hp ;o))) How can you miss :evilb: Thanks for the fun, Dave |
