Re: Let's See Pics of Your Nordic
Hey Bent,
Been in the back ground for a long time. Just joined last month. Things have been going good. Didn't get to do a lot of boating this year at least in our boat. I blew the motor up just before the Arkansas rally. I did get the top speed of 80.6 out of it before it went. Not a lot of damage just a enough to do some modifying. Now Bob has another project on his hands. We decided to lower the compression and put a Procharger on it. This should be a fun ride, we will see. Found a complete Procharger on OSO for a great price(thanks Mark). How's everything with you? |
Re: Let's See Pics of Your Nordic
Things are great up here in Minnesota other then Winter is right around the corner and I hate winter......Wife and I and the kids just spent 18 Days over in Europe....Made it to Iceland , Denmark,Sweden,Germany,Austria,Italy,France,Switze rland.....I posted a bunch of pictures over on www.crowniehq.com under the thread "Hello from Denmark"So check them out.....So far everything is good with engine I think we have put close to 60 Hours on since Bob installed the Raylar kit.......I was a little worried there at 1st cause it started using a lot of oil right after the Kit ....But after 8 or 10 hours that went away as well .....So all in all I am very happy witk the install........
BTW any OSO Members are welcome to become Members of www.crowniehq.com |

(on salt water / light load / 1/4 fuel) 28 Labfinished @ 5050-5100 RPM => PERFECT :D Still no GPS in this boat  .... (LIVORSI) Speedo showing 77-78 MPH If somebody would need the exact measurements for the custom build exhaust tailpipes, just give me PM :drink: |

Re: Let's See Pics of Your Nordic
That looks like a great place to boat. The scenery is beautiful. Just don't run aground. Looks like it may hurt. Good to see this thread still going.

Hope you have it as good for UEA. :drink: |

Re: Let's See Pics of Your Nordic
Lavish,
That's sweet. Hate to hear you're selling. How does it run??? Regards, Steve |
Re: Let's See Pics of Your Nordic
lavish62, Glad you joined us. Tell us more about your boat. What is the setup, HP and speed you are getting?
|
Re: Let's See Pics of Your Nordic
Steve thank you, I'm not to sad to see it go I'm looking in to a 35' Flame. I'm pretty excited to move up.
bobl she runs pretty hard, putting out about 650hp at about 4lb of boost, we wanted to keep it pretty mild for reliability. When we first dropped the motor in her best run was right at 95, but we know average upper 80's low 90's with a full load and extra people aboard. not bad on a Bravo drive. We put imco hydraulic steering and dana tabs to stable her out. She has been a great boat since 2000, but coming from a 30' formula I miss the bigger boat. |
Re: Let's See Pics of Your Nordic
Lavish62,
Stupid question...Is that a Rage or a Heat? I would think 600ci and 4 lbs of boost is a lot more than 650hp no matter how mild :D You'll love the Flame :evilb: Dave |
Re: Let's See Pics of Your Nordic
Sorry the seven is right next to the six. You are right it is more around 750hp.
|
Re: Let's See Pics of Your Nordic
Lavish62,
Is it a Rage or a Heat? |
Re: Let's See Pics of Your Nordic
Best wishes on your upgrade.....The 35 is a great machine. :drink:
|
Re: Let's See Pics of Your Nordic
Rage the boat is a 25 Rage.
TSPM Thank you, although I'm not looking forward to the sales process. |
Re: Let's See Pics of Your Nordic
Lavish62
How does the Rage handle above 80mph? |
Re: Let's See Pics of Your Nordic
Surprisingly she is very stable although you definitely know that you aren't riding on much of the hull. Its quite a fun hot hod to drive around. From 40mph or 60mph she really gets up fast and starts running
|
Re: Let's See Pics of Your Nordic
That's good to hear. I am trying to zero in on the max desirable speed target for the Rage. Is there a speed above which it you feel it is not advisable to do anything but stay in a straight line?
|
Re: Let's See Pics of Your Nordic
It really depends on the type of water you are running in. Although personally I don't think I would like to see that boat much over 100mph. But I am sure it will handle it.
What are you running in the boat right know? |
Re: Let's See Pics of Your Nordic
I am just completing the process of converting a 2005 496HO to a Gen I HP3. Should be in the 525hp range if I got it right. Recalibrated ECU and repitched prop in route to me now. It was an exercise of hp on a budget.
Now I am looking to the future and what would be the next step that the Rage hull would tolerate well but still looking for the the best bang for the buck. I will be accumulating significant hours on the current upgrade before any future engine work will happen. RocketMan hit 107 mph in a Rage at one of the shootouts running nitrous with an Imco drive. His answer to my question was that as long as accelerating the handleing was ok but when letting off the gas above 80 mph it was touchy. Your thoughts? When you say it depends on the type of water you are running in could you give some examples of how the Rage responds to different water conditions as a function of mph? |
Re: Let's See Pics of Your Nordic
When I would run the boat above 80 it was usually pretty stable until I trimmed it up all the way, and then it would want to chime walk a bit. It was usually pretty safe but I would let off the throttle a bit and it would settle down.
As far as the different conditions I felt that the boat didn't handle the digger chop on the lake as well as I would have liked. The chop that we ran in was usually like a washing machine so of course its not going to perform well. It likes to land on its side in that kind of water. When I would make that fast blasts I would do it in fairly smooth water, and I didn't feel that it porpoised or anything like that. Like I said before the only thing I would notice is a little chime walk, but back it down and that calms it down. |

Rage
I typically don't use the tabs for the chine walk, usually I'll just back off the throttle a little and she settles down. I really only use the tabs when taking off, long runs to even her out, or in rough water. I've found that they make the boat porpoise at lower speeds any comments on that? |
