As I'm sitting here south of Denver in another big snow storm I'm looking forward to a couple of spring projects. In addition to adding hydrualic steering I'm thinking about props and a possible gear change. I would like to find out if any other Rage owners out there have tried or are using one of the new 5 blade props. I have a 496Mag HO that I ordered with a Bravo 1X and the 1:65 gear set. I ordered that gear ratio for the altitude here in Colorado. After adding the whipple supercharger to my 496 I've more than made up for the lost horse power at this elevation. Now I'm looking to get it dialed in. This past summer I got comfortable driving the boat in the mid 70's. I currently running a 30" bravo1 per Lonnies (at Nordic) suggestion. I've not made a top speed run so I don't have rpm/mph numbers yet. I'm going to get the hydraulic steering first before I push it faster. So my question is based somewhat on principal. I'm more interested in acceleration and midrange.(Top speed on small busy lakes is just not safe)
Should I spend my money on selecting and dialing in a 5 blade like the Maximus or maybe changing my ratio to a 1:50 and tweaking my Bravo1? I've already had Max Machine Worx beef up the drive so I'm good there. I've posted this here because I wanted to know if any other Rage owners have tried the Maximus or P5. Thanks! Pat I am adding some upgrades to my motor this winter that will necessitate some taller propellers. I am selling my Throttle Up blueprinted 28" Hydromotive P-5X. It is the quickest and fastest propeller that I've run on my boat. It's a consistent 85mph @ 5550, with a best of 86.7 @ 5600 (on the limiter). Should turn your your Rage into a drag boat:D ......... Re: A five bladed Rage ?
Good Morning Steve,
I thought about your offer a little bit. I guess I'm not sure if a prop thats been dialed in for a slightly larger boat would work for me. What kind of horse power are or were you runninng on your Heat? Pat |
Re: A five bladed Rage ?
Pat,
It should be close, if not perfect, because of common x dimensions and bottom designs. If it needed any tweaking (I doubt it), that's easy. Throttle Up has worked with several of us (Dave, Bobl, me, etc.) to get our boats dialed in and is very familiar with Nordics. I estimate my current setup to be 700ish PSHP. Never dynoed it, but that's what takes to get a Heat to 85, so I think it's close. I probably have it sold or traded anyway if you're not interested Pat. I know these props work on Nordics, and I would prefer to "hook a Nordic brotha' up" and keep it in the "family" :D . Regards, Steve |
Re: A five bladed Rage ?
Thanks Steve,
I'm not ready to spend right now and I'm not sure about which way to go either. Besides that, the way our winter is shaping up out here it may be May or June before I get the boat wet. |
