LA Boat Show
3 Attachment(s)
Being a Southeastern boater, I have always wanted to go to the LA show and check out all the west coast stuff. I was not dissapointed. This show is amazing. All the high perf boat manufacturers are there, as are most of accessory, engine and drive manufacturers.
I spent about 6 hours at the show with Bob Loyd and his wife (nice to meet you guys in person) probably missed a few things, and I didn't even look at the cruisers or "family" type boats. I was most impressed by DCB and Eliminator. They still seem to be selling mostly cats, even in a prohibitive insurance market. Of course, you'll have to pay accordingly for these brands and to insure them. A guy in the Eliminator booth told me that full insurance on a 28' or 30' Daytona with 525s is 10K  , and goes up from there with additional horsepower. I guess the quotes I've been getting here (4 to 5K) aren't that bad after all. Nordic has made nice improvements in graphics and materials. Several of the new boats featured carbon fiber inserts in the graphics and logos, which is really cool. The newest Thor has a Teague 900 and a capped hull to deck joint, which seems to be another big option out west. It looks great as the boats appear to be one smooth piece of glass work, but I don't know how this is going to work in the real word of raft offs, dock dings, and boat wakes:rolleyes: . I think the fiberglass repair shops will like it though;) .... OK here's some pics! Regards, Steve |

Re: LA Boat Show
Great Photos!
I wish we had shows like that here on Long Island. All we get to see are the cruisers and fishing boats. Every once and a while they throw in a Fountain or OL and sometimes Cigs. Thanks for the good post. Ray |
Re: LA Boat Show
I just moved to KC from L.A. -- and right now the biggest thing I'm missing from Tinseltown is the Boat Show.
Somehow the Overland Park boat show just doesn't quite live up to my standards -- but they did have a couple of nice Skeeter Bass Boats...in Camo graphics. I saw a pic of the Flame in the open bow configuration in a Nordic ad in this Month's Hot Boat magazine. I think they may have missed the mark making the open bow small (looks to me to be the same size as the Heat. I'm headed to Miami this Sunday for the boat show next week. Not sure if Nordic is going to be there? I2D |
Re: LA Boat Show
Does anyone know if these new boats (43 cat and 47(?)V) are being built in Havasu or in Randy's Australlian Cyclone plant?
I can't see the Havasu plant facilitating these monsters; At least last time I was there. Also, is it a 47V or 43V? It doesn't look like a 47 but pictures can be deceiving :) By the looks of the entry it looks like Mr. Davis doesn't plan on looking at the back side of many boats in the Catatlina Ski race :) Is it even stepped? More pics!! Thanks Dave |

Re: LA Boat Show
Dave, did you sell the ranch or is this a temporary move for you and your family? Dave It's been interesting. KC is definitely different. Looking forward to summer out at LOTO. Trying to find a lakefront home there. How's things? |

Lonnie says there are 2 projects on the burner........a 30' vee bottom that can run a single or twins, and the much anticipated 32' tunnel. From what he said about the tunnel (licensed Skater 5 step hull/modified Thor deck) it's going to be a badass ride:D ...........
Sorry no pictures of the boats, just us bs'ing about them:rolleyes: |

NORDIC has been trying to secure space for the Miami show for months to accommodate these big boats. Unfortunately this year will not happen. They will exhibit at Miami in 2008 :drink: |
