lake norman, NC

I'm heading to lake norman this wed. and want to know if anyone is familiar with this lake. Wheres the best place to put in, whats the noise regulations like..... The The LKN website says the use of cutouts are prohibited. What are cutouts? Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks

They are probably referring to "cut outs" as switchable exhaust like captains call or corsa quick and quite. They want you to have permanently attached mufflers if you have thru hull exhaust.

I dont think that is it. There are lots of boats on LKN with capitans call. I have no idea what it is.

There is no sound oridance, or I would be in big trouble.

Good places to put in:

Queens Landing
Blythe Landing
Ramsey Creek

Lake Norman is a blast, I was down there for a weekend last september with some fellow osers and I fell in love with the lake. My experience with the lake is that it can be very confusioning things start to look the same, if you are not familiar with the lake I would recommend a gps or charts.

Have fun

No mufflers, no problem. Just don't go blasting close to someone's pier ealy in the AM.

Steve Teeter or Dave Ledford of the Carolina Powerboat Club should be able to help. They both live on the lake. Send me a PM and I'll give you their e-mail address or phone number.

I went out there WED and had a ball. Blythe landing sucks for putting my boat in, as the front trailer crossmember drags considerably when initially backing down the ramp. I motored up to queens landing and saw that ramp and it looks perfect for a larger boat. I think I'll try Ramsey landing next time I go down there. Stopped at the peninsula yacht club on the way back and even though I wasnt a member they sold me some fuel. They were very friendly and helpful and sold me a detailed lake map showing all marinas/fuel locations.

Good thing I had a GPS as the lake is confusing and large. Boat ran great and now have 6.5 hours on her BBCs. Port side bilge seems to be leaking some water (bellows?) but other than that everything was fine. No top speed runs, just easy cruzin this time. 35-40mph. Looks like its going to be a great summer.

(ignore the ugly bolts on the hatch actuator)
