New Rage owner

Hey guys,
I am a frequent lurder over here and have wanted a Nordic for quite some time. Well I pulled the trigger today on an 04 Rage with a Whippled 496. (traded in a Crownline 225BR)
I am still learning about all the goodies on this thing right now but so far so good. I have learned a ton reading the post over here and I am sure I will have a lot of questions. I'll post some details soon as well as some pictures.
I finally got one BobL. I'm sure I will be burning up the phone line at FTM.

SeaRay Jim 07-13-2007 11:49 PM

:evilb: I jumped over here to see if you posted.

Congrat's again!

Oh, and I wouldn't brag about being a "lurder". Don't ask me how I know. :drink:

Blowncrown,
Great trade, and welcome aboard. Your going to have to change your screen name to Blownnordic.

Your right Steve, Crownline's are now a thing in my past. With 600hp in a 225BR it doesn't take long to realize that you bought the wrong kind of boat. I'm glad I got that corrected!
I love this new Rage. We had it out on the river up here in Cincinnati yesterday and I absolutely love the boat. I hit 86 mph on the gps before the wife started freaking out. I'm sure it has 90 in it though.
I look forward to meeting the Nordic crowed. Is there anyone up in the Northern KY/Cincinnati area?

Steve Zuckerman 07-15-2007 08:45 PM

Blowncrown,
Nordic Gary is from Cincinatti. I'm not sure about the N KY area.

I live in Cinti. Have an 05 Rage. Boat almost exclusively on Cumberland however. Gave up the river back in 2001.

I prefer Cumberland also. We hit Brookville from time to time as well.

SeaRay Jim 07-16-2007 12:04 PM

Tom, you better change that profile!!!! :drink:

Plane Silly 07-16-2007 12:36 PM

Thanks Jim! A lot has changed for me this week!:D

Plane Silly 07-16-2007 02:24 PM

Can someone give me some input on trim please? Does to Rage run faster on the top end with max trim?

rmikea 07-17-2007 06:36 AM

Not sure what you mean by "max trim". I ran a Wellcraft Nova prior to the Nordic and that took TRIM. On my Rage, I have have the trim indicator set so that it moves the instant I start trimming up. With that, I find my best top end just above the center trim mark. It will go a bit higher before the prop starts losing its hold, but I don't pick up that much more speed. I'm sure this depends on prop, drive height, etc. I'm pretty much stock, 496HO, X Drive, 26P labbed. My POV, it likes trim, but not to the same degree as the classic style hulls like Bajas or Checkmates.

Can someone give me some recommendations for hyd steering on a Rage. I will probably have to go with a single ram and maybe a stabilizer.

Steve Zuckerman 07-18-2007 08:28 PM

BC,
If you are running mid 80s, with expectation of 90, you definetly need dual ram full hydraulic.
It will make your boat much easier to drive as well as being safer. If you want to do it in stages, you can go dual ram partial hydraulic, with Brazil valve tie in to your stock system.
There are several good systems out there. My boat has full IMCO and it works well.

Thanks Steve,
I have to to move a Procharger kit that I had on the 383 in my crownline and then I'll buy the hyd steering. What do you think about trim tabs, does the Rage need them? It seems fine, but it might be nice to have in some situations.

BC,
Since your boat is running in the 80s and up, I think you'll like the tabs. My Heat came with Bennetts, not bad, but poorly positioned (too close to the drive).
I changed over to Eddie's and moved them out to the chines, and they work well.
Tabs are good for:
correcting lateral imbalances, keeping the nose down on plane off, reducing chine walk, flying more level in rough water
A good set of mechanical indicators will help you adjust them properly.

Thanks again Steve.
I see we have the same color trailers, do you know where I can get touch up paint (purple)?

I keep trying, but haven't found the match yet. Let me know if you do. I should probably just order a pint from Myco, or get the paint brand/code.

Hey Blown, This what the back of a 90+ mph boat looks like!!!

ComfortablyNumb 07-19-2007 01:01 PM

Steve and Blowncrown,

When I got my Rage they painted my trailer a custom purple color to match my dodge truck. After a few months I asked about some touch up paint for the trailer. Lonnie sent me about a pint of some purple paint. It didn't match at all. After seeing your pictures it looks like it may match your color. I'll check at home to see if I still have it and let you know.

Jim,
The boat is running great.
Butch has been allergic to GPS in the past, but we're going to get him over it soon :D ......................

I'm sorry Steve, I've pitched the can. Must of done it during spring cleaning this year. Figured I wouldn't ever use it.

Pat,
Thanks for looking anyway.

Rage 07-25-2007 10:03 AM

Optimum trim at WOT is usually somewhere more than 50% but less than 75% with driver only and full to half gas approaching 80mph.

Plane Silly 09-11-2007 08:08 PM

Just an FYI, I changed my screen name from "Blowncrown" to my new boat name "Plane Silly"
Had the Rage at the Cumberland Poker Run and she is running GREAT! Still got to do the hyd steering and trim tabs, but that will have to wait for the off season.
