Flame K-Plane angle....

OK,
I'm understanding that the Flame tends to get a bit of chine walk going when running 90+ so I was wondering about the tab placement.
The high speed Fountains, Laveys, some of the more exotic boats run their tabs parallel to the water or even half way between parallel and dead rise angle. This according to Dana and others is to greatly reduce chine walk without scrubbing speed. (many threads on this)
Any thought on doing this on a Flame?
Thought it may be something to consider while the motors are out this winter.

I assume you have the Mercury tabs. If they are mounted like mine they are about a half inch above the running surface. When I was faster, I took a 4' level ran the tabs down to keep them level with the hull. I marked on the indicators where that was. I would start just an indicator mark lower (1/8") to accelerate. That seemed to do the job at my speed (Attcahed) (5800RPM w30P)If it got a little unstable, I would bump the tabs down a very little. That would be a good place to start to see how the hull handles. Hope this helped. Motors? You should also consider Nose Cones

I run Tabs at 41/2 drives at 51/2 - 6

720 souuds about right. Will you share the cam spec with me? If so Email it to me. Very curious. Seeing you are going with a tall deck and a 4.5 stroke, I was looking to see the cam timing. I really think the trick with that crank is to get a faster opening & closing rate on the cam. With high compression, that is not as important. 10.5 is pretty high on pump gas. Do you have ethanol? We are seeing it not as forgiving, but still not that bad. I will give you a buzz tommorow.

No problem on the offline cam stuff. It won't be ground until JimV finishes the heads to make sure we are spot on.
10.5:1 in our neighborhood (4000-5000ft) is nothing; especially with the right cam. No ethanol here (I don't believe) but I will add some booster when running down to Havasu just for insurance.

Thanks Gary on the tab placement... Do you happen to know if that setting is neutral or slightly negative?

I just have a hunch that parallel tabs would work really well on this hull.

Thanks,
Dave

What heads did you go with? Carb or Fuel Injection?

From above...
TBD on the induction.

I will be using the new Morel lifters as well and will run the lift into the .660-.670 range so the flow numbers will be a bit better 405/[email protected]

I allways take the cam lift max, cut off .05 from the bottom and top to work on flow to match the heads. Say if heads start slowing down on flow at .500 having anything much more than .550 is wasted. The cam is only there for a splt milisecond. The guy doing the heads and cam for you is one of the best in my opinion. I know he will do it right.
