710 Illmore Heat

I have had the 710 Illmore boat in my possesion for the last couple of months.

When I got it... it was doing 83-84 mph.

I did all sorts of prop/spacer testing, and determined that the motor was down on horsepower.

Took the boat to my buddy at Eastside Offshore.. he found three cylinders had over 50% leakdown.

Illmore stepped up and got us a new motor. (It was within warranty)

I did some more prop/spacer testing.

Here is what we ended up with:

Propshaft depth of 3 inches
27 pitch P5x labbed by Hering
89.9 mph on glass smooth water (digital Garmin GPS)
6100 rpm
slip is now 13.3%

This is the best handeling Heat I have ever driven!

I am pretty darn sure that I could have gotten 1-1.5 more mph out of her if I had some nice 1ft+ chop.

Overall an awsome boat!

Nice work Chris.

Your methodical tuning continues to impress.

This is nearly identical in performance and in the setup to what I have in almost every way (except the boat hull itself).

I havent played with spacing, but am getting 90.3 on the Garmin and Furuno so I think Ill leave it alone.

Is this Southocg's boat you are tweaking?

Yes... Southocg's boat.

She is a beauty!!

Your hull is a little lighter/smaller than the Heat's, and I wish I had some chop today... anyway... it is running great!

Very cool of you to assist him.

How many hours on the mill for three holes to be leaking 50%?

I enjoy fine tuning boats... and helping a fellow performance boater out.

I dont remember... I will check tommorow.

not many though... over 50 but under 100 ... basically one season

Hey Chris,
Way to go (as usual :drink:).
Can you tell any difference in the way the boat handles in reference to the lighter aluminum Ilmor?
Best Regards,
Steve

Steve,
Thanks.

The combination of the engine being set 1" lower, along with the Illmore being lighter, definately makes the boat more stable. When going across wakes diagonally, this boat will rock to follow the water, but you can feel that the pendulum effect is noticably less and subsides much quicker... I like it!

Like all of our Heats, the boat is balanced better at high speeds with more fuel in the starboard tank. This greatly reduces the slow rolling motion caused by prop torque.

On that note... for 2010, Nordic has moved the fuel tank to the center of the boat, which while reducing fuel capacity to around 80 gallons, will definately help this hull handle better. I think this design move, along with moving both batteries to the starboard side (like the Howard), would make the Heat handle flawlessly.
