New to the Forum 01' rage
Hey everyone just wanted to say hi.
I've got an 01' rage open bow runs 86mph. Working on proping the boat correctly. I think there is a couple more mph in it. Any Ideas on that would be helpfull. http://i972.photobucket.com/albums/a...0000870454.jpg |
Welcome!
What rpm @ 86? What altitude? What kinda loads? What prop do you have now? If you still have 300ish rpm to give, just send it to Merc for a lab. Look back into previous threads. There is extensive data from all of our experiences. Based on what I see, B1 30 labbed by Merc for your boat @ sea level. That's the prop I'm needing @ my 4500'. I have a 28 Merc lab B1 that I'd like to unload if interested. If you boat at any altitude or load lots of beer, that would work good for you. |
It ran 86mph @5100rpm at 1200 ft elavation in good conditions and a fairly light load with a 28p bravo 1 (water conditions were very good, very flat). It ran 81 at lake saguaro (1500' elevation) @ 4900 rpm with a 30p in rough conditions, and a fairly light load. The dyno says the engine make over 700ft/lbs of torque between 3800 rpm and 5100 rpm and continues to make over 600ft/lbs to 5400 rpm. Makes max hp 680 @ 5100 rpm. I would like to spin more rpm. I was thinking about cutting some of my 28p. or maybe going with a labbed 26p. We go to the river alot, lower elavation, but have not had great conditions to run the boat. Memorial weekend it was mighty rough and the boat ran low to mid 80's.

Cool! Thanks for your help. Is your labbed 28 you want to sell right hand or left hand rotation? I am running a lhr prop right now.

Hi Andy and welcome to the Nordic group :ernaehrung004:
Curious about your first string of data which states 86@5100 with a 28 pitch. That correlates to a slip of 3% (actually 1%) which obviously is not possible. The 81 @ 4900 with a 30 is pretty much spot on with Rage results at 13% slip. Is there a typo in the first line? Just curious so we can better help you... Dave |
Thanks for the info. That was the reading I was getting from my gauges. Could be incorrect/speed? I am going to run it again this weekend at Havasu with the 28. I'll have gps speedometer this weekend.

The Gaffrig is 5+mph off, at least mine & every other I've seen. I am typically 17% slip @ the optimal trim.
The 28 I have is the correct rotation. |
Thanks for the input!
Will the slip% go up or down based on prop pitch? Do you think labbing the 28 back would get me on plane faster? The 30 when I ran it seemed to hook up better than the 28, although conditions were worse. |
Andychb,
I am headed to Havasu for for the regatta on thursday I could let you try out a couple of my props. I have a Bravo 1 26 not labbed, at 26 pitch Cutting Edged Bravo type, and a labbed Bravo 28 pitch but the lab job is questionable. I think they cut most of the cup off and vented it when it was labbed. I picked it up cheap, so I JBwelded the vents closed so I could get on plane. |
