Getting my Heat back
Strange how things work out in life. I've just completed a deal to buy my 2004 Heat back. I regretted selling it from the first day. Not very often you get to go back and undo a mistake! Anyway, I just listed my Rage for sale in the classifieds. I need to sell it to complete the deal.

Great to hear you will be getting your old Heat back!
|
I don't think your rage will last long at the price you are asking with the power upgrades. Was your Heat an open or closed bow?
|
My Heat was an ongoing project that I finally finished. It's an open bow, ITS/XR drive and a 900+HP EFI Whipple supercharged engine. Once finished I decided to sell it and get a 35, then hard economic times forced the sale of the 35. So, round and round we go.

Welcome back to the perfect all around boat size.
If I remember correctly... your Heat is pretty darn fast! Chris |
Was it named full throttle?
Jt |
Yes it was. He kept it at LOTO.

She runs pretty good. Mid 90's with 6 psi boost in the summer heat. The engine has low compression so I could raise the boost a couple more pounds but it would just be harder on parts. It's been very dependable like it is.

Congrats Bob. I can't wait to take a ride.

Hi Bob,
Funny how things work out sometimes. I hope you get your Heat back. I know you spent a lot of time and $$ on her. Best Regards, Steve |
Hey Bob....wouldn't that be somethin' if somehow we got the heats mixed up and I "accidentally" took yours home - instead of mine. BTW, I should be out your way late this afternoon. Dave

What makes you want to get out of that 25 for the 28? Just curious because I have been looking at these boats semi seriously and I cant decide between the 25 and the 28.

Heat needs more power to go fast & needs a bigger truck to tow. I know a guy with a very clean/fast Rage in the classifieds for sale:drink: |
If you still have it around next summer I might have to take you up on it. My boat runs somewhere around 90 and I dont want to loose too much speed when I switch, so your boat would be ideal. I really like the MCOB and that is my main reason for wanting to get a nordic. My goal is to get an open bow cat though.
|
I've owned and driven just about every size Nordic. The 28 is the perfect size for MY style of boating. The 25 is a great performing boat. The major difference in the 2 is the size of the midcabin and ride. I also like the bolsters in the Heat. The Rage is a bit low for bolsters to work properly. The Rage is a much better boat for water sports. It handles more like a runabout. Stepping up to the Heat feels more like an offshore style boat. It doesn't do well pulling tubers, skiers, etc. The Rage is a very fast hull. The Heat runs about 8 mph slower with the same power. 28-29 feet is about as big as you can go with a single engine. The Rage will run 80+ with 550 HP, the Heat takes another 100 HP to get the same performance. Bottom line is both boats are great. It comes down to how you boat and what you are looking for.

Better call your insurance agent before buying a cat. You may not like the number$. Regards, Steve |

I traded up from a H2X, which I liked a lot, to my Heat, that I like even more. Much larger cabin, better rough water ride, and I wanted to get into a step hull for the additional efficiency. It's definitely a move worth making.

How does the 28 do pulling a skier, tube, etc compared to the h2x? Someone pointed out earlier that the Heat isn't great for skiing and tubing. Based on my own experience, and while the heat isn't purpose-designed for skiing/tubing, I've found it more than adequate for this type of recreation. We don't ski much -- mostly do tubing -- and I'd say the Heat's biggest weakness in this area is doing an efficient and timely u-turn when someone falls off. Other than that, I think the Heat does just fine for the casual water toy tug and skiier duty. |

The Heats weakness is in that it can't u-turn very efficiently as compared to the shorter/more manuverable Rage. Having driven both extensively...you can see which way I went. I think that the open bow Heat is one of the most versatile boats around. I call it "my 100mph wake boarding boat" Chris P.S. Tabs are a must for these kinds of activities |

I dont wake board... my kids do.
I can keep the boat on plane down to 13 mph... but only with a specific formula. P5x prop...a must have for slow water sports...usually a pitch or two smaller than my cruising prop. Tabs centered to down position. Someone sitting in the nose of the open bow..facing backwards.. usually the spotter. Chris |
Thanks for the direction guys.

The Rage is sold. Just delivered it to Alabama. Sold through the Ad on OSO! I'm on the way home now. Somewhere near Mississippi.

Hey bobl,
Good move. I think the Heat is the best boat on the market. Period. We boat in the NW. My girls (and all of our hot boat friend's kids are pulled behind ours) I went for a ride in my buddy's 26 DCB with weed whackers on it. We did 98 - rippin and fun. But.... then they followed us around the lake saying wow... I bet our kids are having a great time behind their heat. Our only problem (of course there is always a solution and usually lots of $$$$) is ALL of our friends have to wait for us and our 65 mph 502 MPI stock 28..... HMMMM we've got 550 hrs - it's never broke... BUT time to pull and play this winter. IF anyone has suggestions about the repower. We are all ears. Chris has suggested a 540.... I like it... Any other input? Cause.. Labor Day (tomorrow) is COLD..? I'm glad you're getting your boat back. Enjoy Brad |
BTW..... Chris. I love your avitar... reminds me of where we boat at Lake Billy Chinook. Or others know it as the Cove Palisades!
Met my wife there 20 years ago with THE first custom ordered 21 Eliminator Sport with a BB 454 and Bravo 1.... They did not want to build the boat! She insisted -- she's feisty! |
Picked my Heat up this weekend. I can't believe how nice Matt took care of it. It looks better than when he got it from me 3 years ago. Feels like a brand new boat.
|
:evilb:
Chris |
Great to hear that! Any plans besides running it?
|
Can't wait to see it on the water. Congrats Bob.
