Have you had it dynoed? I love numbers on this stuff :) How big did you need to go with the injectors to compensate? I am new to the supercharged world and need to gather knowledge somehow.

no, i did not have it dyno'd... and paid the price last year trying to diagnose a few issues that would have been very apparent on the dyno. i'm guessing it's around 625 HP.
the injectors are whatever whipple puts in the center mount 2.3L kit. i *think* 45 or 50 LB but can't recall. (dustin would know i'm sure) best thing you can do when building a SC'd motor is make SURE you run MLS (like cometic) head gaskets, and buy some exhaust that has provisions for O2 Sensor(s). then you can hook up a wideband to get the tune dialed in... that was my meal ticket to working out the kinks |
I agree with you on that point for sure. I am versed fairly well in the realm of turbocharging, most of the normal upgrades are needed in the SC world it seems, just making sure before I put my foot in my mouth. Thanks for the info though. I am hoping to find a clean Heat with a 500EFI for myself. I do all my own work (thank goodness for being a mechanic) and trying to gather all the info I can. Have fun with her!

Are you running tabs? Jay, Bob Lloyd (BobL here) is the Texas Nordic dealer, and has a wealth of knowledge on Nordics and Heats. He can probably find you what you are looking for. BTW, hard to beat a HEAT :drink:........... Regards, Steve |

Nice setup. My Bennet's were mounted 18"s inboard of yours, which made no sense at all. I think they did that to clear the exhaust and steering rams. Regarding our many tab conversations. Check out this pic. You'll notice that even with the nose of the boat up, the starboard tab is almost parallel to the surface. They do provide stability mounted this way, but induce very little drag. I would test yours like you are planning to. If you want to keep the Bennetts there are ways to modify them or change the installation. Steve |

Steve i've got a set of k-planes i bought a while back that i'm planning to install at some point. i'm just curious if my existing tabs are holding back anything. did you notice any difference moving your tabs out to where they are now? |
Better bow lift and less chine walk.......
Regarding chinewalk and control, Think of the pad as fulcrum on a lever arm. The farther you are away from the fulcrum, or the longer the lever arm is, the less force you have to apply to get the same effect, ie less tab deflection at the chine should work as well or better than a lot near the pad. Regarding bow lift, My Bennett tabs did force the bow down when deployed, but did little to control chine walk. All they did retracted, and even worse deployed, was lift the transom. I wanted my transom to run lower, so I could get the bow up easier. Moving the Eddie tabs out to the chines, in effect also moved them up due to the hull deadrise, relative to the water surface, particularly at speed, where they are just running on spray. And they still do lift the transom in the few instances when I need it, planing with a heavy load (people/gear/fuel/Crown Royal), or running in rough water, because I am running slower with "wet" chines. The "other" alternative is to run them horizontally, or somewhere in between, but due to the shape of our transoms and swim platforms, you would still have to move them inward so the rams would clear the swim platform. I don't know if you would be gaining anything there or not. Regards, Steve Regards, Steve |
