I do like this one, and it looks to be very clean for sure. Now here is my question. Stepped hull versus non-stepped? I more than likely wont be doing a lot of off shore boating, mostly lakes here in Texas. We dont have the largest lakes, but enough to open up. How critical is the stepped hull? I plan on going fast (as fast as my wife will allow) with her and may need to mod to do that. Does the non-stepped hull have any issues with chine walk and the such? Thanks a lot Steve!

The pad vees (1999-) are fast and efficient hulls. The step hulls do seem to be 2/3 MPH faster, and some people think ride smoother. The step does help aerate the rear running surface of the step hulls, their X dimension is higher, and they tend to run flatter, which leaves more of the deeper vee bow section in the front of the boat in the water. The pad boats tend to ride a little higher (like most pad boats), which makes them run on their shallower vee aft section. The trick there is lower the trim and tabs when it gets choppy and lay some deeper vee at the bow back in the water.
The boat you published the link to is the one I was referring to. Only in the water twice last year, and not once this year. Either hull is fine for lake use. Some of our lakes here are huge (KY Lake, Cumberland) and they all can get rough from wind and lake traffic. It was rough at the KY Lake PR last summer and I ran comfortably side by side with a friend who has a 31' Sonic with twin 500EFIs. Most people consider these good rough water/salt water boats, as do I.
