2001 heat need help repowering
Hi new to forum, have a 2001 heat with a 454 (sucks) use to a 500hp in a 23ft rinker. Would like to repower to get around 72 to 74 mph. Have bravo drive, think it is just a bravo 1 vin on it is 114156 i think. will i need to upgrade it also. Hour meter says only about 140 hrs on boat. Any help appreciated

A newer 525EFI would get you there with the right prop and gear ratio. Of course, I am a huge fan of rebuilding and making an engine more potent that swapping in a new engine. Either way, around 470-500hp will get you there (or darn close). Good luck, and oh, pics! You must provide those too :)

More cubic inches will make for reliable power for the low to mid 70s. I would look for a clean used 502, and build from there. For reference the 502 Mag/415HP motor runs about 65,
the 500EFI runs low to mid 70s, and the 525EFI run mid 70s, with a few well set up Heats running upper 70s in perfect conditions. If you want to use your existing block, make sure it's a 4 bolt main bearing 454. If it is, you can bore and stroke (4.25"s) to a 496". The 496/454 stroker should easily make the 525/550 HP you'll need to consistently run in the mid 70s, naturally aspirated. The 496/454 stroker makes a great supercharged motor too. That's what my friend Butch is running in his '96 Heat. Regards, Steve |
