496 ho upgrade?

Hi I have a 496 HO in a heat it is stock. I was wanting some cheap horsepower, I was thinking of a wipple ECM upgrade, lightning headers And a one inch drive spacer. Does any of this make sence? Any suggestions?

Well thanks for the reply Tim, I was at your shop today in Hillsboro and talked to your engine guy. I got the idea from him, I really like that 29 ft escape you have in the showroom! Do you have an idea how much the wipple ECM cost?

Thanks for coming in! Pcm upgrade with the correct t-stat $925.

How was the wine?

hey tim, did you do the pcm upgrade to that rage a few years ago? i remember the lightning headers and labbed 28 bravo running close to 80 in that boat, that setup always sticks in the back of my mind, can it really be that easy?

The internals hold up to Whippling? Hyper pistons? Cast crank? Blah blah?

not really, if you baby it at low boost then yes:pray:......for alittle while, better to build it to handle the whipple rather than bolt it on and go, just my .02, we were talking about the whipple ecm reprogram btw:D

Yes , that boat had the PCM,headers, and prop work. It really ran 82 on gps ,and showed 84 on speedo.

We just completed the same package on a elminator eagle. We will test this package when we get a brake in the weather

Personally I wouldn't get near that mod with that engine.

Are you satisfied with the pcm upgrade. I am considering it for my 525. Not sure if I want to commit to Higher Octane fuel though. And If you search this topic here on OSO, Dustin and Raylar have very differant views on this. Whipple says it's not a problem, yet Raylar says it's not worth the minimal gains to the average boater and puts the motor on the hairy edge. What are your thoughts without offending either of the above.
Ray
