New Wind Deflectors for Heat/Rage

4 Attachment(s)
Mike Chandler of Nordic, was kind enough to send me out some of the new generation wind deflectors to try for my Heat. They are 1/4 inch thick, and tinted to match the winshield. They work awsome!!

I haven't done a speed test to see if there is any performance changes to the boat....but not getting hit in the face with wind is worth just about anything to me...this has been my only gripe with my boat...and Nordic responded!

I love your Heat. You can really tell how well you take care of it.

bobl 04-13-2012 02:33 PM

Those are perfect. Do you have any idea what they'll be selling for? Did you get your cockpit cover modified to fit?

Bob

In2Deep 04-13-2012 03:21 PM

Those look very good. I'm having trouble figuring out how they mount?

Eroc5150 04-13-2012 04:09 PM

I like it but I'm wondering the same thing - how are they mounted and are they easily removable for the cockpit cover?

CB-BLR 04-13-2012 08:17 PM

you have to drill your winshield...you can see the blind nuts in picture 3.

you need to be careful doing this...and spin the drill backwards.

you can put wing nuts on the bottom for easy removal...but I have mounted them semi-permanently and am having my cocpit cover modified.

They work great...but I have not been over about 85 with them yet.

they are very sturdily made.

Chris

Jay Gadsby 04-14-2012 12:25 AM

Very nice indeed! It would be nice to have some sort of lock out hinge on it to fold under the windshield and out of the way, but the service they render is well worth it to have em mounted like that.

xcpilot 04-14-2012 03:42 AM

I like those I may have to get a set. BTW what do you use to keep your bow cover from sagging, it looks great.

Steve Zuckerman 04-14-2012 08:58 AM

They look pretty good Chris. I am glad the factory/Nordic is still listening to us.
I am sticking with my Cal Customs, but I would buy a set of these if I didn't have the Cals.
Time to hit the water!
Best Regards,
Steve

Hey Steve!

But do your deflectors stay up and functional at 100+ ??

These do!!

Thank you Mike Chandler and the Nordic team for listening...coming up with a solution...and then perfecting it!

Chris

P.S. I still say that the winshield ought to be constructed in four peices instead of two...seamed at the outside front corners...and this wind deflecting shape molded into the front two peices....from the factory

Sharp eyes you have there!...the trick to making an open bow Heat/Rage more aerodynamic at speed.

Twin-wall polycarbonite from Crystalite 10 mill thick...cut to fit...the stuff they make green-house walls and ceilings out of...with an adjustable pole snapped in the middle for additional support....and the stock bow cover over it.

Plenty rigid enough to not deflect at over 100mph...and only weighs about five pounds...maybe a little less.

Definately not cheap...around $300...but very effective.

At 100+ couldn't say, since my boat runs in the 90s for now. However they do stay up at any speed. They slide into a machined slot. Much better design than the Windaways. I rarely use them anyway, and if I am, it's usually in adverse conditions like rain, so I am normally cruising.
Actually I invested in some new sunglasses that are much better for high speed running, and they have helped a lot.

Wind deflectors look great.Might have to check out Cal Customs.Nordic has been very bad with customer service for me.On my second Nordic but am looking to buy another brand just because of the poor after the sale service.Sorry guys.

I am so sorry to hear that Tom.

Where did you buy your boat?

I am investing in LASIK this next week...just so I can get me some cool shades like you...instead of my perscription glasses.

I am just sick and tired of wearing glasses...and all that entails.

Chris

Good bantering with you Steve...I would enjoy coming out to see you guys again this year.

LASIK should reduce the price of your sunglasses by 75% Chris. I am near sighted so I am still paying painful $$$ for my Wayfarer 2s at LensCrafters, but they do help a lot. I get 33% off with a AAA discount. I told them "If that's 33% off, I am glad I'm not paying retail."
Come on down. The season starts early here. Poker Runs in June and July.

Nordic Tom 04-16-2012 05:21 PM

Hi Chris, purchased both in Havasu at the Nordic factory.I live in Minnesota so its a long haul. With that,I still love the wind deflectors and may just have to bite the bullet and get yours if I decide to keep the Rage.

wow!!! thank you for that info, i've been trying to figure out a way to keep it flat without damaging the tops of the seats, i hate how much they suck down when running over 50

Thanks for the tip on the bow cover. I will be making something up for this season. I may try another material, maybe thin plexiglass. BTW I had laser eye surgery 20 years ago-before they even had Lasik. I guess its still working! Back then the preferrred method was PRK Photorefractive Keratectomy-thats a mouthful. Anyway it was the best $4000 I ever spent, no glasses for 20 years. :ernaehrung004: Just lately the reading glasses are becoming necessary. Getting old now can't help that.

Terry

Jay Gadsby 04-19-2012 09:58 AM

I had the PRK about a year and a half ago. I was only like 20/90 and 20/100 or so, but now I am 20/20 and 20/25. However, holy wow are my eyes sensitive. Welding even with a helmet on and properly adjusted leaves my eyes burning in the morning, and the harsh Kuwait sun is too much without sunglasses at all times.

Awww come on Steve....don't you mean your AARP discount?
:lolhit:
Good talking to ya this morning.

I just bought a 2001 Rage and that is the one thing I didn't like is the wind. Do they work well?

I have a different style of wind deflectors on my Rage. Not quite as pretty as the ones shown here but they swing down and allow you to use stock covers. Yes, they work well. I can't post photos here but if you send me an email I will send you pics.

launchpad475 04-20-2014 01:59 PM

posting pics for XCpilot, what kind are these?

I think they are kal kustom. I got them from Havasu Customs in Lake Havasu City (928 208 0702). I think Steve has the same ones on his 28. They are not cheap but they work very well.

I had the new version from nordic on my flame, the wind still hit me in the face but not as bad. I called nordic and had a custom set made 1" taller, modified my cockpit cover and now cruise 60-70 with my hat on and can talk to my wife..I highly recommend them

launchpad475 06-09-2014 10:57 PM

What do they get for those? The clear ones you can barely see, and I'm so sick of getting blasted in the face. (that's what she said?)

timjschmidt 06-11-2014 05:40 PM

I bought the pair from Nordic but have not put them on yet since I don't want to have to deal with redoing my cover.

Nelsona 06-12-2014 10:51 PM

I like the ones from Nordic, I am going to go with them, my only concern is drilling the windshield. I'll deal with that. Thanks for all the input, look forward to seeing you on the lake.

Couple hundred bucks If I remember...maybe 250

Nelsona 02-28-2015 05:30 PM

Just received my wind deflectors from Mike Chandler at Nordic, they look sweet. I still need to mount them and they didn't come with any mounting instructions so I assume that they mount under lip of the windshield. Any suggestions before I begin?

slorider 03-02-2015 10:50 AM

Nelsona do you have any pics of the deflectors that you got ?

Not yet but they are the same ones that are on the first page of the this forum, except clear. I decided on clear because I like the lines of the boat and you can't hardly see em.

So the nordic I bought has these and I want to get an extra one or two just incase one cracks or something happens to it how are yall ordering these?

snapmorgan 08-13-2019 09:18 AM

Just call Mike directly at the Nordic factory. We will probably want a measurement on length and height
