interesting prop test today
Just took the Nordic Rage out today for th first time this year.
I took a friend along that had a Revolution 4 23 pitch prop I wanted to test for tubing and higher elevation boating. All I can say it wow interesting results. I didn't do any stop watch time for planning and specific RPM, but the revolution seem to come out of the hole faster and hold the 20mph wake board speed better. Some pre test info. elevation 4200 ft My Rage has the merc 525 Bravo XR drive 1.5 Normal prop I use is a 26 pitch 4 blade Cutting Edge ( it runs 2 MPH faster than my 26 pitch Bravo 1) 26 pitch Cutting Edge - 69.8 mph 5100-5200 trimmed way up 28 pitch labbed prop - 72 mph 5100-5200 trimmed way up 23 pitch revolution - 69.9 mph 5200- 5250 not trimmed up much didn't feel like hitting the rev limiter. |
rage with a 525?how does it handle at higher speeds?i just bought a heat with 525 love the motor, the heat rides like a cadillac but still little afraid its a bigger boat then i needed,i like taken kids tubing as well

I would think the 525 would be giving you better numbers than you have??? |

Wow, does elevation play that big of a role?

I would think the 525 would be giving you better numbers than you have??? Elevation plays havoc on Naturally Aspirated engines. Its kind of like going for a run breathing normally, then go on that same run breathing through a straw. Maybe not to that extent, but you get the idea. Now the F/I guys, doesnt effect them quite as much because the engine is still going to build the pressure, just sucks more to do so. |
I didn't mention that those numbers are based on both of my GPS speedos. Full tanks on both sides air temp around 78 water temp in the 50's.
yes elevation makes a huge difference even with the fuel injected 525. When my boat was tested at parker for power boat magazine by Bob Teauge top speed was 82. My rage handles great with the 525 and the trim tabs. I can really smooths out the ride by dropping the tabs. It handles some pretty rough water but I have had it in some bad weather and I wished I had the extra length and free board of the Heat. |
Elevation affects SC motors too. I had a Rage w/ 500 & Whipple. Ran low 80's here (4k+ ft) compared to ~90-92 @ Havasu (500 ft).
There was no prop that worked for me wakeboarding. 20 seemed to be my boats planning speed so I had to constantly adjust throttle & tabs with either my 28 or 32 props. |
Wow, didnt realize it was that large of a difference with the SC. My experience with turbos is a lot more than SCs. All the more reason for me to tell the wife we are not moving to Colorado ever. I like Texas, she hates the heat though. Time for an AC in the boat lol.
