Broke drive again

I broke my drive for the second time this year. First time I broke the vertical shaft, and Im not sure wut broken on it now. Im feed up with it. Last year I broke the vertical shaft for the first time, and I change the upper when I bought the boat. Imco SC extreme and Imco lower. Im not coming out the water any, I baby my boat coming out the water. The only time I actually get on it is after im on plane and in midrange speed. I have a 509 Whippled pushing around 700+ hp. 4 blade 28p prop. The past few times it broke was when I first get on top the water coming out the hole. I thought my drive can handle the engine im running but obviously it isnt. Anyone have problems like this? any suggestions? Im thinking about pulling the engine for a 500efi, or something not so powerful and more reliable and easy on my drive.

Hi Jody,
I am sorry to hear about your bad luck. I know it is discouraging, and expensive. I've been there.
700+HP can break an XR or SC, but it really isn't that excessive. Some of us are running more. I wish you were closer so EB Marine could set your drive up for you. Eric has figured out how to make these drives last.
A lot of it is the fine work of setting and shimming the gears, and other internal tolerances.
You could ship it to him here in Nashville.
If you want to give him a call, his # is 615-714-2944.
Regards,
Steve

I'm thinking of upgrading to a SCX, or*teague platinum xr drive. What r your thoughts on those, compared to the sc I'm running.

I don't know anyone who has broken a SCX upper. The uppers are where most breakage occurs, as you have seen.

Go with the SCX Upper and kept your SC Lower.
