Hydro motive p5x vs. bravo 1
 

I am currently running a bravo 1 28p stock. my heat is running 82 @ 5300 with a full load 5 adults coolers huge stereo extra batteries etc. im going to try a hydro p5x 27p with thinned blades hopefully tomorrow was wondering if anyone can tell me what to expect or at least handling characteristics etc I'm going to loose sleep lol if I don't get some input I will repost results on Sunday thanx

From all I have read, and been told, the p5x will give an increase in bow lift over the a stock bravo prop. Bobl and one of the other high hp heats (recently sold) both run the P5X iirc.I think you will be fine. And unless you are running a spacer, you should be able to expect better slip numbers as well.

Thanks for reply I'm not running a spacer yet going to try 5 blade first then go from there I'm running a 496 .30 over forged internals iron eagle heads with a 2.3 whipped 7lbs boost and cmi headers not sure of horsepower any one have estimated horsepower please do tell I haven't had it on a dyno yet rev limiter is set at 5800 boat handles better at 80 then 65 lol

Well, the magic number for 80mph around here is roughly 600hp. If we use that as a benchmark for you, I would say 650ish. That is just with what you have given for numbers though. Lots of other things to take into account. Best bet would be to find a tuner with a dyno and really work out the numbers.

Took heat out yesterday to test prop and party. p5x performed well it came out of hole with more bite accelerated a little harder and gained 2 mph up top 84 @ 5300 next time out I will gather more info with a lite load and report

Nice test. You are making 650/675 horsepower and it sounds like you have found your prop.
Most of us settle on the P5-X. It works well with our high X dimension and large single engine boats.
i think you'll pull more RPM and MPH with a lighter load.....

I use the usually very accurate data base on BAM Marines website, www.go-fast.com
it says you are 658 propshaft HP, and 7% slip. Almost too good to be true on the slip, but very good none the less.
For the horsepower caluclator, I use 5600 lbs. for weight, and a constant of 245 for step hull Heats.

When I bought my heat, it had a 25 P5X on it, but I experienced bad slip out of the hole, low cruising speed and bad blowout with minimal trim. I've played with several props all bravos 26, labbed 27, and 2 labbed 28's. The stock Mercury Bravo 26 seems to preform best. Comes out of the hole nice, accelerates hard, cruises 3400 @ 43-45 and tops out 75-77 @ 5400. The P5X was only cruising 35-38. Im running a 1" spacer, XR drive 1.5 ratio, and a 525.

I had know idea that the prop would perform as well as it did 7 percent slip I'm not running a spacer either Do you think a 1 in spacer would still help? If some one could please explain how to upload pictures I would really like to post pics of my boat , motor , and sound system (I do sounds for a living) thanks everyone for input
