Heat with speed itch
Currently own a 05 Heat 496HO mag with Whipple, cmi headers and a b1x spinning a b30 4 blade top speed of 80. Looking to hit the 90 club or at least close to it. Motor and drive have 420ish hours. Looking for advice to how I can reach that? Upgrade the motor or build up the 496? 575/600sci, 525blue? Don’t wanna exceed 10k with engine and drive upgrade.

Build a 540 with good heads and put your whipple on it...you'll need an intake obviously but that should get you there and go with a reputable tuner...eddie young or someone like that...get at a minimum an imco upper with a xr lower..this is going to stretch the 10k budget but I think that's your best bet...or you can contact raylar about their built 496 option since you already have the whipple that may be the cheaper route and you won't have to buy headers, blower, intake and all that...honestly that's probably the better route considering your budget

JamesCraig, Does your 496 have any internal mods like cam, heads, etc? Or is it a stock longblock?
Reason for asking is I'm building up the 496 in my '04 Heat right now with forged internals, Raylar supercharger camshaft, Raylar rockers, and a Whipple. Just curious on your current engine specs that got you to 80mph.

interesting thing about speed, there are those who want speed with every perfect condition applicable. Then those who want that speed at the push of the throttle.without perfect water weight and fuel.
With three kids on board and boat 70 Gallons fuel i can push mine to 85 mph gps with absolute ease, open bow, coolers full etc. But that takes a crap ton of HP I am just over 1K with 8.5lbs of boost
With a 32P merc Racing labbed prop/race fuel 50 gallons 300lbs of two people I was pushing past 93-95 in light chop when my motor overheated from a rock being sucked up and into my high pressure bypass valve....I spun a main..........
the engine is out now at Outlaw racing here in PHX and we are building up cubes and installing new injectors......
If i could do it all over again Id buy a 525 with headers and just enjoy that,.
