Old post, but the boat looks awsome.

You are all in for a great season...I just spent 1/2 summer in my new 28' Heat (bought from Indy).
Incredible boat, stable ride, handles chop well - perfect all around boat. Definitely could use more power :) |
Any 25 Rage owners out there that would care to share their experiences? New Nordic owner as well.
|
Welcome to the family! :D

Hey there waterheater,
I have a 2003 Nordic Rage that I bought Summer of 2002. I have the 496 Mag HO and its the closed bow version. I'm very happy with this boat. What are you running ? |
ComfortablyNumb:
Sorry didnt respond sooner, just read your message. I have the 496 Mag, closed bow version as well. Wanted the HO, but the dealer had ordered it and i got a good deal on it. |
Water Heater
Have you had much time on the lake with your new Rage yet? How would you compare it with your previous boat ? I moved up from a 20' Ebbtide and I am very pleased with my Rage. I found that it even throws a better wake for water skiing than my older smaller boat. |
Pictures please...I sure like them Nordics!

ComfortablyNumb: I have not even had it on the water yet. Recently i was in Vegas for a convention and went to Lake Havasu for a few days and stopped by the Nordic factory. Contacted them when i returned for an east coast dealer, called him, put together a seamless deal and picked it up mid november. I cant wait for spring. Prior boat was a 22' Larson with a 7.4L MPI/ Bravo 1 with thru hull. Trying to sell it now.

I did the same thing. I'd been talkin to Nordic for a year about a different boat. Then I took a trip over to the factory from Vegas. Orville took me through the whole place himself and showed me what they had going on. A year later I went back to see the nearly complete 21' Blaze. Decided it was too small and then pulled the trigger on the Rage. I was nervous about buying this boat without a test drive but I'd seen so many good reviews. 2 month's later I drove back to the factory to pick it up. A brief shakedown on Havasu and I new I'd made the right choice. Very happy with the performance and ride of this boat. I bet you will be glad you did also.

Numb, just checked back on this thread. Thanks for the info. Must have been nice to have Orville go through the factory with you? Lonnie wasnt around? Are you running any tabs? I have been up to my indoor heated storage quite a few times getting her outfitted. New lines, anchor, Dana Marine extinguisher, etc. I am having a guy install my swim ladder that i got from Nordic, and he is also installing a depth sounder soon.
I cant wait for spring!!!!!!!! |
Do you guys ski behind your 25 Rages? What is the wake like and with a 496 HO do you run a standard bravo drive without fear of blowing the drive? Just interested as I like the speed and looks of the 25 with the HO. Powerboat mag. says a solid 75 gps. Do you get that? Thanks.

Waterheater,
I don't have tabs on my boat. In the few hours that I've run it I've not had any handling issues. Of course this is only on our smallish "lakes" we have in Colorado. I love the way it rides even in the afternoon chop. My wife got me a new MOMO steering wheel for Christmas which I just installed last Sunday. Next addition is an external ram tie in system for my steering. More power may be in store in the near future but maybe not. Colorado's winter has turned into a below normal snow pack in some areas and the drought may be back big time this summer. If that's the case I'm not going to spend the bucks if it looks like the boat will end up sitting most of the year again. Bouncedcheque, I've skied behind my Rage and I really enjoyed it. My wife pulls me at 32 mph and the wakes were pretty good. I actually think it throws a better wake than my old 20' Ebbtide. It's not a ski boat but I think its pretty decent for water skiing. My wife likes to be pulled at 28 mph and at this speed the boat is starting to settle back down and the wakes come up a bit and are a little steeper. You can see the difference. My boat has run 65 mph (gps). The speedo read 70. Remember, I'm over 5000 feet in altitude. I also put the high altitude (1.65)gear set in the bravo 1x. this is with the 496mag HO. Turning a 24p bravo one I run right into the rev limiter so I should be able to play with a slightly higher pitch. We'll see. I think the HO is shipped with the 1x drive from the factory and at this altitude the power isn't an issue for the drive. |
Bounced: Gave up skiing myself a long time ago after a bad crash. But will take anyone willing to go. My Nordic has the Bravo 1 and thats what they use for the 496 Mag. Numb is right on the Bravo 1x for the HO.
Numb: I have been emailing my dealer and am about to in the next few weeks pull her out of storage. He says the first year its real important to keep moisture and condensation to a minimum. Has this been a factor your first year? Bummer about the drought possible again. External steering needed for the HO? Any other tips you can advise let me know. Thanks |
I haven't heard or dealt with moisture or condnsation issues with the boat. I keep it stored indoors so it is not exposed to bad weather. Double check when you have your aqua step mounted. Mine is a little to close to the exhaust tip. The rubber flapper on the tip kept hanging up on the frame of the aqua step. I trimed a portion of the rubber so that the flapper would flop back down at idle. I think the newer models have the exhaust outlets in a different location though.
I want to do an external steering add on system if I decide to add a supercharger. Everything I read indicates that at 70 + mph this provides an extra margin of safety if you have a mechanical failure in your stock steering system. But like I said, if our lakes end up low again this year I'm not going to spend the money. Loading the boat on the trailer is a little different. My old boat I just floated it onto the trailer, hooked on the winch and tightened it down and pulled up the ramp. The Nordic is a little different. If your trailer is deep enough to float the boat all the way to the bow stop and attach the winch strap, and then pull it up the ramp you'll end up with about 6 inches of play between your bow stop and the hull of the boat. I back the trailer in far enough for my wife to float it on till it stops about a foot short of the bow stop. I attach the winch strap, she then powers the boat the last foot up the trailer and I snug it down and then pull up the ramp. Took a few tries to get it right. Of course, could be just the angle of the particular ramp at the lake I go to. |
I'm gonna mount port side for the swim ladder. My guess is the 2004 models, at least as far as mine, have the exhaust exiting thru the swim pad (?) supports and not the standard position. Not sure what you call it. Wont be a factor with the flaps.
I really hope for your sake you have the water levels needed for you to do what you want. Good luck with that !!! My old boat had guides, which are ugly but convenient, drove it on to within 2 feet of the stop. This trailer, (made by Nordic)does not have the guides, and is a stepped hull, and have not had the chance to deal with it yet. So, dont know what to expect. Only one way to find out. Thanks for your input. |
