Looking for opinions on 35 Flame
Guys,
What do you like and don't like about your 35 Flames? Thanks, Dean |
Re: Looking for opinions on 35 Flame
What's not to like?
They are good boats that have a fine attention to detail. The fit & finish is very good compared to the average east coast boat. The gel coat work is one of the tops. Colors are very vibrant. They do not stitch any embroidery. No threads falling out four years later. With 500EFI's mine will run 88-89 MPH, GPS on a 95 degree day, half full of fuel, two people on board. My GPS shows 91 MPH in fall. The plus is it has a large cabin for a 35'. The cockpit area is fine. The engine compartment is tight. If you plan on doing a lot of wrench turning, its not the boat to have. If you want to install a blower, you will need scoops. The boat is stable at 90. In rougher water 3-4 feet, the boat tends to want to launch. You have to keep the tabs & drives down to keep it more in the water. Being a deep V, it lands very well. In smooth water, the lift makes it run. The old Nordic trailers are way to low for most boat ramps. I had to raise mine 5" to get it in my drive way and keep it from hitting bottom while backing in. I hear they have raised the new ones. Factory support is weak. If you are persistent, you can get help. See Gary in this forum. He is a East Coast dealer as well as been a owner for many years. I got his old boat. This is my first twin, but had have many other singles. I like it more than most any other twins in the area. For what they cost, its a great value for the $. If $ is no object, I would suggest a Cig or Outer Limits. Good Luck, Linnie |
Re: Looking for opinions on 35 Flame
We have one and run it on Lake Michigan. I second everything that Linnie said. My opinion matches those comments.
It is hard to find a boat with the fit and finish they have in that price range. It is a very fast and efficient hull, speed is high, fuel consumption at cruise is low. Rick |
Re: Looking for opinions on 35 Flame
Guys,
Thanks for the input. Keep those comments coming. Sounds like a good boat. How does the boat perform in the cruising range, (40-55 MPH)? Thanks, Dean |
Re: Looking for opinions on 35 Flame
You might want to try the Hotboat forums. There's more west coast types over there and you might get more responses.

Re: Looking for opinions on 35 Flame
It cruises very good. It does not need much drive trim at those speeds, there is alot of lift and not much drive trim is needed at those speeds.
Ours cruises at 50mph and 3000-3100rpm. Rick |
Re: Looking for opinions on 35 Flame

Re: Looking for opinions on 35 Flame
RV,
~80-90,000$. I know this out of the range you want foryour Boat? Question, who/how did you relocate your bolsters? Thanks, Dean RV, BTW, Beautiful boat your have there! :D |
Re: Looking for opinions on 35 Flame
Dean,
Yes you are right that is out of my range. There was a 2000 35 at Boat Brokers in Havasu a year or two back. It was the one that is on the Nordic web site as their model boat. You may want to check with them and see if that is still around. That was in the low 100's at the time. Maybe it is even in your range by now. It was sitting outside when I saw it so it wasn't clean like one stored inside all its life. Our bolsters was moved forward during production (originally setup that way). Good luck with your search and if you find a little extra under your bed sometime give me a call. You won't find one cleaner or shines any better, not even one from the factory. I will keep my eyes open for one in your range. Rick |
Re: Looking for opinions on 35 Flame
I've seen Ricks boat, he's put a lot of work into it and it's definitely one of the cleanest 35s out there. Maintenance has been over the top also.

BTW....this boat has a pair of bone stock HP-525's / XR drives and runs 93.7 GPS.
Mercury Racing 32P lab finish props. Planes in seconds with very good mid range punch. Pulls hard and fast to 89-90 then levels off to the max speed. We could go to 33's but this set up seem ideal to the customer as well as us. Here are a few more pics since everyone like pics :D |

Re: Looking for opinions on 35 Flame
Question,
Where do you mount a swim ladder on the Flame? What type does everyone use? I going to call Lonnie later today. Dean |

Re: Looking for opinions on 35 Flame
Indy,
Thanks, Lonnie said that they don't mount those on the 35" Flame because the tie bar will hit it. I have to mount one of those top mount UGLY ones. Thx, Dean |

Re: Looking for opinions on 35 Flame
I had a big push to find a ladder, but as Gary expressed, the bar acts as a natural ladder. The Ski hook acts as a pull up.
Gary, Any interest in the OSO Winter Chill Out? We have a place for you & the wife to stay. Linnie |

Re: Looking for opinions on 35 Flame
Dean,
Did you get the boat out yet? I know you will really like it. Hows the boating in your area? The Atlantic and the bay gets real crappy a lot up in our area. Fortunately, The James River offers a lot of good fresh water boating. Post some more pictures of the boat when you get them. Linnie |
Re: Looking for opinions on 35 Flame
linster,
Had the boat out 4 times, JUST LOVE IT and so does the BOSS! I posted some pics in the general discussion forum. MD |
Re: Looking for opinions on 35 Flame
Hey Dean, I have seen some pretty trick custom billet "steps" built to attach to the tie bar. Makes a bigger platform to put your foot on when climbing into the boat. If you can get someone to machine one for you it is a clean way to add a step to the back end. Nice boat. Think I have seen it before. Is that D2's boat?

Re: Looking for opinions on 35 Flame
Very nice boats everyone! How are they in big water? 5-7 footers? I boat on lake Ontario. My Sonic does well in those conditions, its a lot of fun to run at speed in the big stuff. I couldn't consider another boat that wasn't at least as good, if not better, than Sonic in the rough water. Squeaks, creeks, rough landings? Broken stuff?
