Re: 540 Bulldog

Mild, I ordered a 28 Heat with 540 Bulldog in 1995. The boat stock ran 70 MPH on a good day. In 1998 I had a 420 Mega blower installed top speed increased to low 80's. The blower made the boat come to life, however, I did melt down a cylinder with poor fuel delivery. Adjustments were made to fuel system and boat is still running today (500 hours later).

In general, the Bulldog is a great motor if you plan to build or supercharge, if not, buy a 525 your speed will be the same or more.

My thoughts

Re: 540 Bulldog

thanx for the reply NG
I was guessing 67-68 MPH and 71 with no gear one person on board
Did you have to cut out the back of the seat or did you move the seat forward for the blower install ....my boat would be tight. only have 2 1/4 " in front of the engine for clearance. but would put the blower on when our lake sales 93 oct gas only have 89.
I keep my boat on a lift on a slip. gas station 10 miles from the lake.

The blower fit with very minor changes. AS I recall we did make a small cut out in the back seat for the blower pulley. If you do supercharge your Nordic replace the fuel switching value. The stock value does not allow enough fuel flow for a supercharge setup. I learned the hard way$$$$$$$

Re: 540 Bulldog

Gary,
I don't think your problem was in the fuel valve if it was a standard issue IMCO. (maybe the older Nordics had a different valve) The IMCOs are rated at 240 gph. If anyone is burning that much, they're on thier way to the moon :)
I have no fuel flow problems with 850 hp. The problem that does exist is the anti-syphon valve on top of the tanks and the associated fittings through out the fuel system. This is a very restrictive area. Remove the anti-syphon valves and replace with 1/2 NPT male/ #8 male fitting and run #8 A.N. lines to AND from the the IMCO valve. These will equal the 3/8 I.D. pick up tube in the tank and will supply you with all the fuel you'll need. Make sure ALL your fitting have at least a 3/8 I.D. (inside diameter).
You'll be able to safely run as much power as you want with this set up. If you need to return fuel (i.e. EFI) I can help you with that also if you need.

Re: 540 Bulldog

Nordic Heat, in 1995 Nordic did not use the Imco valve, they switched in the later years.
