35' Drain plug in front step
I was over looking at a buddy of mines 2001 flame today. He is getting the bottom redone. He had a drian plug in the front step. Mine does not, 2000. Did they start that in 2001? Makes sense to be able to get the water out.

Re: 35' Drain plug in front step
Russ,
The boat is at Progressive ( Joe's ) shop. They are filling in all the nicks and scratches. It is hanging in the air and they are filing in the holes with gel coat. They are going to start sanding to get it smooth. Joe tells me they then take wool buffing pads on a grinder, load the wool pad up with bar wax until its full. They buff up, down , right, left in a small spot to bring it to a as new luster. He says the gel gets so hot, it would feel like a burn on the skin if you touched it. I saw Mike's boat when they finished, it looked new, Good Luck tonight, I will be hanging at the office after work. I need to flush out the engines well from the trip last week. |

What would a "resurfacing" job like that cost?

Re: 35' Drain plug in front step
Water does get trapped in front of the bulk head, would be good idea to add this plug. Chances are there is some water holding.

Drilled the hole yesterday. I got out less than a 12 ounce can of water. Time to fit the plug now.

Re: 35' Drain plug in front step
Not that hard to install the plug. I had to get a 2" sanding disc to flatten the upper side of the hull where the mount goes to keep the plug from rocking.

At least there wasn't alot of water there. This doesn't seem to be feasible for me. With my boat on the lift, I can't access this drain plug, if I was to install it. :( It's only on the trailer 2-3 times! Dean |
Re: 35' Drain plug in front step
What about the second step? Is a drain plug required there too?

Re: 35' Drain plug in front step
Not that I know of, from my understanding it id the bulkhead that stops the water not the step. Maybe Gary could get the answer.

Re: 35' Drain plug in front step
Dean, If you take on a lot of water from a rain storm or whatever you will retain water from your front bulkhead to the bow. The front will not drain to the bilge on your 35. After the front bulkhead everything drains to the bilge no need for a drain in the back step.
I will try to locate pictures of your boat before the floor is installed to illustrate. Gary |
Re: 35' Drain plug in front step
Gary,
Thanks alot. I found water beside the right side of my belly tank, sitting on top of the foam the belly tank is secured in. It's right under my bolster, looking thru the inspection portal. I'm hoping it's just water collecting from all the rain we have been getting?! Dean |
