This season's other Runs

Don't forget there are other powerboat runs this year. Check out www.rochesteroffshore.com and click on events for the original run that speaks for itself -The Seneca Lake Battleship Run on July 16th- More cash prizes, prize table and lowest entry fee than any run in upstate NY!
Also if you are more in the Lake Ontario area there is the Oswego Powerboat run an the same weekend as the SPBA run.
(Just posting equal time here, Need for Speed!)

Re: This season's other Runs

Thanks For posting Whiplash. I think a few SPBA members are planning on attending. Do you still have to be a member of ROPA to participate? If so, what does membership cost and do you have membership forms on the ROPA website?
A few SPBA members were pretty bummed out last year because the Battleship run didn't have a Radar Run :( . I guess they went to the showboat just to see the speed run. Oh well, I guess if they don't get their fill at the Pirates Run Radar Run, tuff luck. We had a little problem with our Radar gun last year  . I guess the Fireworks and the Band jammin at the party made up for it. Unbelievibly, we had a sponsor (A.S. Mechanical- Thanks Andy :D ) buy the SPBA a brand new Stalker II Radar gun for this years run. Should be fun.
Whiplash have fun during the Oswego run. :drink: Hopefully, Ontario will be a "proper Lady". Be Safe.

Re: This season's other Runs

at least the local spba club supports the local area with donations and thanks . other clubs come to the area run the lake piss off some of the locals and leave. It is to bad the boaters get so rapped up in how important they are and how much they spent on there new boat. But it is nice to say that the spba club gets along and talks to every one who is involved . Having parties and just plane old get togethers and run different areas with out problems. Why can't we all just get along, before you know it boats will be like CB radios no one will have them.

Re: This season's other Runs

ROPA had a pole to see what every one wanted did not think they cared about my votes.speed runs, having meetings some place besides rochester.also i am a member but i have to ask to get bulletins and what goes on in club.its like i am not there; SPBA we do not have any of that; every one is great and out to have FUN .bottom line i think we need to get together face it there is not a lot off people that have that need for speed.but right know SPBA rules lets get them out there and have some fun in the SUN.

Re: This season's other Runs

:evilb: Ok then!!! put down your guns and play nice :D

We have all been shooting bullets at each other and it is time to play nice, and play together, like the IRL and CART need to do...... to survive !!!

Soooooooo -- I will start this off with a nice jester of friendship's !!

We (as in SPBA) will host the "Pirates Run" next year, on July 15th, so all the folks from all the other organizations can join in together and be one BIG :D happy family!!!!!

What do you all  think about that ???? This is a GREAT offer that should not be taken lightly.

Re: This season's other Runs

:drink: You mean like one Poker Run on Seneca Lake, that you do NOT need to have membership in the hosting Club to participate? Where the hosting club obtains all legel documentation (regatta permit) and Insurances to avoid noise problems and all the other B.S. Probably 150 + boats. One big a$$ party. Huge Purse. Massive Donation to Charity.
Sounds to good to be true. Maybe someday. :D

Re: This season's other Runs

lowest entry fee than any run in upstate NY!
Something doesn’t add up Whiplash.
Let’s see……….
ROPA entry fee…..$75 but you must be a member. So the real entry cost is $110. Plus $50 for each passenger.
SPBA entry fee….$80 no membership required. Each poker hand passenger $45.

ROPA for driver and one passenger? $160.00
SPBA for driver and one passenger? $125.00

Last time I checked, 125 was less than 160.

Re: This season's other Runs

M2 has this whole thing figured out and he's in NC! How's that old saying go....you can fool some of the people...... :D

WHIPLASH 05-21-2005 06:26 PM

Re: This season's other Runs

M2 doesn't have it as figured out as he thinks. With the fees at the Battleship Run every person who pays gets dinner included. At the Pirates Run dinner is an additional $15 per person and, at his rates for 2 people, that equals an additional $30 for a total of $155, just $5 less. Of course dinner can be skipped at the Pirate Run and M2 would be monetarily correct.
What he also doesn't understand about membership requirements, that ROPA chooses to use, is the protection it provides it's members under New York State law. In its simplest, the law does not allow club members to sue each other. If I trip over M2's poorly placed dock lines or boat gear at the Battleship run, as he'd be a member, he'd be protected from my litigation. If M2 trips over, say Carney's dock lines or gear at, The Alex Bay Run, Pirate Run, etc., then he can sue Carney for negligence or acts of comission or omission. In this day and age of "spilled coffee" lawsuits, ROPA chose that philosophy, that each participant driver be a member,to protect it's members and the club.
It is really just a matter of 2 organizations with a different philosophy and approach to how they put on an event. As far as I'm concerned there is nothing wrong with either philosophy, or the many other organizations philosophies, just different. We've been a part of the WNYOPA Poker Run since its beginning and, while similar, there are differences to give some variety. If all run's were the same people would probably pick one and it would spread them out so thin that none would prosper or survive. I feel the variety is good as people can look forward to more than one type of experience per season.
I felt good at the formation of SPBA as there are many good people down in the Seneca Lake area and a wonderful resource- the lake and it's communities- and it is good to get another event there. It is a shame that some of these people cannot see the benefts of the differences and variety but have to make these events a contest and, as in politics, resort to immaturity, innuendo, mudslinging and divisiveness instead of trying to get as many boaters as possible to share both (and all) these different but excellent functions.
To Need the Speed, although your approach and style is different than mine was, I applaud the way you work to promote your run and that you don't object to equal promotional time. Keep up the good work!

" resort to immaturity, innuendo, mudslinging and divisiveness instead of trying to get as many boaters as possible to share both (and all) these different but excellent functions."
Boy you hit that on the head! Last year I posted an invite for the Pirates Run on the ROPA forum, thinking that their may be a few interested members, instead, I believe it was TGRAY104 that responded on the SPBA forum: "For a good time on the water" "Link to ROPA website" :stupid: :stupid:
I know I was impressed.
I guess the mud slinging comes from ROPA's years of treating people like $hit! Once in a while your going to deal with the ramifications.
I have heard countless examples of ROPA giving passionate boaters the cold shoulder. People who worked hard to set-up the Battleship Run. People who just want to see whats going on. People that don't have a 200K dollar boat, People that work very hard for the boat they have.
The SPBA strives, and I mean strives, to treat all boaters equally. Little or HUGE, your the same. We don't charge an arm and a leg for the docks rather, we use the first come first serve principal. You didn't sign up for a dock in time, kicking and screaming ($$$) isn't going to do it.
The SPBA is a group of people that love to boat and have a good time, regardless of income, boat, age, sex, race, etc. etc. If you need to be pampered do it some where else.
As far as the Pirates Run goes, our goal is to make it the most entertaining run on Seneca Lake and perhaps eventually the Northeast. We want the participants, the spectators, the media, etc. etc. not to say "boy was that fun" rather, "that was the best flucking poker run I've ever attended...period". We try to involve as many businesses and as many spectators as possible! We put on a show that businesses on the water can use to their advantage. All of the proceeds of our run our donated to charity. Not only are we having a good time, we are setting an example. Trying to eliminate the stereotype "good for nothing noisy speed boats" . The regular boaters on Seneca pay the price for the stereotype...believe me. By increasing the dimension of our Poker run we don't just run up and down the lake making noise. We get spectators involved letting them enjoy what we have to offer; Live music, Charity powertool Auction, Fireworks, Radar Run, etc. etc. Now we are including the very same people that were *****ing about the noise the day before. When their included the *****ing stops. To say that ROPA and SPBA do things entirely different is absolutely correct. ROPA organizes an event for the good of ROPA (i.e. everybody has to be a member). The SPBA organizes an event for the good of everybody the SPBA can get involved including the Local DEC, State Troopers, Locol marine patrols, etc. etc. . If more groups don't try and make an effort and actually attempt to take the correct steps at hosting events like the Pirates Run the sport of performance boating will eventually be crushed by noise complaints and B.S. violations. just my .02
