Lake George Ice Out....
Anyone know the condition of the Lake George ice? Lots of very warm days up there lately. It is starting to look kind of dicey. This is early, usually mid-April is the normal ice out time. I'll post anything I learn/know.
Looked solid from the Northway today.
we're getting there here... I'll post pictures as soon I'm in water... 2 weeks or so I guess.
Still about 10" in the village this last Sat. don't hold your breath!:ernaehrung004:
I give it till mid April..was down walking around by it today..pretty thick
I am hoping it stays locked in for a couple more weeks at least.
Soild as a rock this morning. Hers a link to News 9 web cam on Shoreline Rest. South end near public docks http://capitalnews9.com/content/weat...s/Default.aspx
That large gap between the shore and the ice is forming in places.

This is what I worry about........1973. It seems the later the ice goes ice, the less chance of damage.

Unfortunately I am out in the largest part of the lake where the ice islands are miles x miles in size. If they get going on a windy day, nothing will stop them. You just have to hope they are thin enough or honeycombed enough to do less/little damage.

Saturday morning 3/21. Lots of ice still, cold this am. Here is a picture I took this morning. 24 degrees.
Had some snow showers yesterday. I'm hoping to get in there for a day or two by Mid-late April.
Big north wind today and the ice still seems to be locked in. Hasn't moved much from what I can see. Very cold too, won't break freezing today.

you aint kidding |
About 3 inches on the edge out in the main lake. Nothing we could walk on. We drove a 15 Whaler through it some, in about a boat length from the edge. I am sure it is somewhat thicker out in the middle. Starting to honeycomb on top but solid, clear ice at the bottom still. Very warm 50-60s, sunny, and light/no wind, good for melting ice.
Big NW wind forecast for Monday. Warm all week. |

Ice started moving today, Monday 3/30/09. Forecast for big west/north wind got it started. Wind was not as big as forecast so far. Ice 2-3" thick and honeycombed pretty good, not loose but certainly weaker than solid white/clear ice. NW wind pushing it along.

6pm 3/31/09, getting to be miles of open water around Dome. Still heading south slowly. N wind easing up. Still very sunny and warm. Another day or two if it stays warm and it should be mostly gone. These pictures taken 5:30p-6pm.

4/1/09 7:30am update. Big S/SE wind, enough to blow my hat off. 10-15mph. Ice moving N quickly. East component is blowing ice off east shore toward dome/sagamore. Huge gap between shore and ice. Totally overcast, looks like rain. 35 degrees.
Looks like the strong SE wind melted/pushed all the ice North west-ish. Pretty much done, mostly all open water now in the main lake. A week or two early this year. Amazing how fast it goes and melts once it gets started. 48hrs.
Its all at the marina! :drink:
