Question on NE boating

I'm curious what the boating is like in the CT/NY area. Are there websites with pictures of the boating there, or does anyone have pictures of where you boat on the CT river, etc?

Specifically looking at areas to boat around the Hartford area.

Not really any boating in the hartford area but from middle town down its OK.
We also ru over to claudios in LI alot from Old saybrook.

I have a sutphen and my brither has a 32 fountain fever.
Your welcome to join us sometime.

The CT river has americas cup rest middletown.
The blue oar in Haddam area,
The black seal in Essex,

Then there hamburg cove to hang out moor ironically theres no hamburgs there>LOL

Dock and dine in Old saybrook But be carefull Pulling out up river can find some rocks and theres no shelter from boat wakes.

Also in Old saybrook Is the back porch at between the bridges marina. I spend alot of time there. The foods good and the people who own it and work there are great.

Then theres The pavillion in Old lyme sound view beach. Kind of a rowdy bar, lots of drunks which can be fun if thats what your after.

Cladios in LI is straight out fromm Old saybrook and about 30 to 40 minutes away.

Great food and lits fo boats, boaters.

Hope that helps.

Let me know if you need more info.

Well, I don't really know much about the area, and curious as to the boating. I'd most likely not spend a lot of time in the River unless that is the place to be. At least now, we boat in MI and our boating is on Lake MI going to port to port and hanging out at beaches along the way. What's the boating like in CT? We have 3 year old twins, so the party scene is no longer of interest to us, but we like to hit bars for food and socializing.

A lot of us usually meet up at Harbor Park on the weekends and on nice week nights. In middletown, a few miles south of Hartford. Please feel welcom to join us. They actually open for the season this Thursday. Bring on the warm weather!

The no wake zones in the river are numerous. At 20 knots they didn't bother me too much. At the 40 MPH speed limit you spend more time at idle than cruising.

Essex is the only town on the river you can enjoy. The rest are too far away from the water. In Essex there are plenty of restaurants, bars and entertainment.

You might like Napatree Beach, Lake Montauk, Sag Harbor, Greenport, and 3 Mile Harbor. Even Block Island and Newport are in reach at 50 MPH. These areas all have touristy towns to enjoy

I dont agree with the last post. The river is great with your kids.
I take my kid and my brother takes his. there are great plcaes to hang out like hamburg cove and the blue oar for lunch.

I never go 45 MPH though LOL and havent had any issues yet.

The rest of the post I agree with though The LI area has some great beaches and places to enjoy. little towns etc.

CT side SUCKS.

There are a few places to go but for the most part its private beaches .

If anyone can correct me and show some good places to moor and swin in to the beach please do. Id like to find some myself.

The area just past East Haddam is fun also....on the other side of the little island. That usually has quite a few boats, but be careful of the sandbar, getting in there can be a tad bit tricky.

I stand corrected! The river is a great place for hanging out, tubing, exploring islands, and if you have not seen Selden creek you are missing a scenic wonder. When my kids were young and I had a 19' open bow runabout it was great and we spent a lot of time there. My point was the river s not a great place for "Go Fast" boats cruising as the no wake zones and speed limit are a PITA! The only place I know of to beach / anchor and play in the sand on the CT side is Napatree beach, and it is in RI. It's worth the trip though.

There is always Sound View....but it's a little trashy, but the scenery can be "nice"! :drink:

On the CT side in Fairfield county you have the Crabshell in Stamford(very hot place to roll up to by boat on Thursdays and Sundays) & Captains Cove in Bridgeport. There are some places on the Housatonic river in Stratford as well(Knapps Landing, Outriggers(great food) and Margarita Grill). There is a Fountain dealer at Margarita grill. Not a whole lot else in my neck of the woods.
