Albany to NYC on Hudson?

I'm thinking of taking a trip down the Hudson from Albany to NYC and back. Go down one day and come back the next. Is there a good place to stay overnight (not on boat) that is right on the water and safe to leave the boat? Any suggestions on where to stop and what to see and do? Thanks.

Liberty Landing Marina on the Jersey side. Then take the Ferry over to thecity...done it many times
