LBI Trip planning help

I am planning a trip with 2 other boats in two weekends from now and we are looking to stay at a nice marina around LBI. Can anyone recommend a place, the ultimate location would have a restaurant, pool and be close walking distance to the beach.

I have looked into Key Harbor Marina in Waretown, it looks to be a nice marina but it is on the opposite side of the bay.

Also any advice on enetering the Barnegat Inlet would be greatly appreciated, I know this to be a very dangerous and tricky inlet from yrs ago.

Thanks for the help,
JB

JB:

I have done this trip from Stoney Point, north of the Tappan Zee Bridge, a few times.

I would recommend coming inside at the Manasquan inlet, then follow ICW through the Point Pleasant Canal. There are a number of places for fuel in Manasquan and after the canal. Continue south on the ICW through Barnegat Bay.

On the north end of LBI there are a number of marinas in Barnegat Light. For more action, I would continue south to Surf City, Ship Bottom or Brant Beach. You could also go further south to Beach Haven and find plenty of marinas close to restaurants and the beach.

I have not lived there for five years so the names of the marinas have all probably changed. Sorry to not have more specifics.

If your in Barnaget Bay, head down Forked River. It's safe. You have a handful of Marina's to chose from. Southwinds Harbor usually has a good night life with transiet slips. Captains Inn has a dockside bar, where you can also get a slip and spend the night. Also if you have any children your only a walk down the road from a great ice cream place (Mrs. Walkers). You then have tall oaks, silver cloud, and wilberts marina, further down the river. My father keeps his 31PC at silver cloud, real nice facilities (showers and bathrooms), staff is really nice as well are the people.

i would recomend staying in beach haven. plenty to do, food, amusment park for kids. if you come into the barnagat inlet you want to approach it from the south side and come in from the far outside marker. its pretty easy if you just follow the bigger boys coming in. i wouldn,t do it at night. there are rocks on the north side just off the seaside/ island beach point that are unseeable so come in from the far outside and follow the channel exactly. its very well marked. have fun, it sounds like a nice trip. ps: stay on the island though because the green heads like the mainland side alot.. mark :drink:

Nice trip, my wife and I love that trip!!!

Morisons (spelling) is another Marina you can stay at, it's in Beach Haven and as Joe said, BH Yacht Club. My wife and I really like staying in Beach Haven as apposed to the more northerly parts of the island. Last time we stayed there the shower facilities were nice and they provided us with bicycles that we used for transportation during our stay. It's a 5-10 minute walk to the beach and lots to do!

When the ocean is calm we run the outside all the way down but if it gets bumpy you can always come in Manasquan or Barnegat. Manasquan you'll have to deal with the canal which will add 45 minutes to your trip and lots of no-wake zones. Barnegat, make sure you follow your GPS!! Also from Barnegat you have a lot of no-wake zones in the ICW. You can run away from the ICW but I wouldn't recommend it unless you're with someone you know.

My wife and I say those were some of the best boating trips we ever took and we've gone to a lot of other places!

Man, I miss those days!!! Can't wait for my girl to get a little older so we can go back again!

if you come in barnagat light you won,t hit any nw zones until you hit brant beach about 1 1/2 miles past manahawkin bridge. that one is 5 min long. second one will be very close to morrisins marina. it is very nice there and secure like panther said. great location for everything... have fun,,,, mark :drink:

Its a great bay to boat in , like the others have said Barnegat Inlet can be a little crazy for a first timer , if you are not in a hurry Manasquan is much easier, Key Harbor is a nice marina with a great resturant, ate there this past Sat night, if you do stay there, you can go across the bay and anchor at Tices Shoal and walk to the beach , we are there every weekend, along with hundreds of boats , I am sure you will enjoy anywhere you stay in that area , Good Luck and Enjoy our area !!
