CT. muffler law?????

Does Ct have one? no problems all summer long till this past sat. at the old saybrook ramp. either a statey or Dep yelling at me and everybody with a go fast w/ no mufflers at the ramp. yes it was 11 am on sat, crazy busy and filled w/ a** holes who left there boats on the dock for what seemed like eternity while they got there boat ready, blocking the ramp. took me an hour to get out of the water. statey was gone by the time I got out. Looked like a real prick. Whats the rule??????

Regs state you are supposed to have NON SWITCHABLE mufflers on all boats sold in CT....even if it came stock with none.....like mine.

Page 22 of the CT boaters guide

NOTE: Exceeding noise levels is a serious problem.
Marine Police will be targeting areas, especially on the
Connecticut River, to check for compliance. Exceeding noise
levels will result in a fine of $220. Failing to submit to an
on-site noise level test will result in a fine of $435.
Subsequent failures to submit will result in a fine of $535.

Mufflers (Noise Levels)
No one shall operate a motorboat on the waters of this state unless
the boat is equipped with a muffler or muffler system allowing it to be
operated in compliance with state law.
Noise levels range from 90dB(A) for older engines to 88dB(A) for
engines made after January 1, 1993. Any marine police who believes
a motorboat is being operated in excess of the established noise levels
may request the operator to submit the motorboat to an on-site noise
level test. No person shall sell a motorboat which does not operate in
compliance with the established noise levels. Boaters should contact the
Boating Division if they are selling a vessel used only in marine races.
No one shall operate a motorboat on the waters of this state that is
equipped with a muffler or muffler system cutout, bypass or similar device
that prevents the motorboat from operating in compliance with state noise
levels and without authorization from the Commissioner.

thanks Sonic.
I guess I just have to stay out of the OS ramp around mid day sat or sun. I have come in to the ramp with at least 6 or 8 state troopers there lookin for DUI's. Never once had a problem w/ noise. Be aware..... the state is low on funds so they might be crackin down on anything they can get to increase $$$$$.

Maybe they should be more concerned with people smashing into eachothers boat small trailers taking up space across the street and bass boats loading w the engines and washing out the launches!

This is why we need the cpba to help watch regs that affect us all in. CT

maybe there wouldn't be a muffler ban if we had a club sooner?
