Ct bs
Last year I bought a boat. 1 year to the date which is Today I received a letter from the state claiming I didn't pay book value (nada) so I owe them $ 40 in interest a $54 penalty and $459 in Taxes to make up what I claimed I paid. So now I have to PROVE to them I acually payed what I claimed. How the hell do you wait a year and send out a bill like this. No one at MVD used any book values at the time I reg'ed it.They didn't even mention anything to me. It's a TOTAL SCAM. These peter puffers will get every last dime out of everyone. My advise is reg EVERYTHING out of state. Like I didn't pay enough already for Malloy to give away to some porch monkey. OK I done ranting now, But I don't feel any better

WOW, that sucks! I think a lot of people have all "lessenned" the value of our boats when registering, but this sounds ridiculous!
BTW, now we have 2 Ct BS threads:whistle: |
I too had a bout with DMV. I bought a [repo]22 Velocity from N.E Marine Liquidators before it went to Auction. 1 year later they tried to get me for back taxes and a fine. I bought it for almost 1/2 what NADA stated it was. Luckily The Dealer wrote a letter for me saying it was a as-is repo boat , and I sent a photo-copy of the bank check I used to purchased it with. After some aggravation I was off the hook. :bsflag:

This state is horrible! Ive been challenged twice by the state on this same thing. Luckily I had receipts to prove my arguement. I also know 2-3 friend with the same problems with the state of CT very recently. Out of state reg is the way to go. This state is horrible!

Register it in OH... 2 years for $60 (actually it might be 3 years), and no property tax!

Out of the whole thing that pisses me off the most is it took a year to send this to me ? All the while adding interest and a penalty? Also MVD say's nothing at the time of reg? I KNOW they do it on purpose hoping you can't substantiate your claim.
