Ya i still have Loto prep I left the boat at home only up for the night tonight. Depending what happened we'll plan one for early sept we'll have the river to ourselves. No Johnny law
|
Yeah we haven't been to A bay in a while just because of that. Made a run at 80 plus down the channel to the hospital last year and that was the first time we had been to A bay in 5 years by boat. A friend got a noise ticket 3 weeks ago!

Ya it's getting worse and worse. I was legit a beer over the legal limit dropping some buddies off in the bay from the bars in Canada by boat, pulls me over cause "it's a swimming zone" (at 2am) and proceeds to give me 4 tickets including a BWI. It's ridiculous. I hate to want to but I'm looking at other places to move because tons of people want to run the river because of how beautiful it is, but I know so many people with speed tickets and noise violations going into the hundreds of dollars. **** my buddy got a ticket for pulling me waterskiing at 7am with out a spotter (have a full mirror system) and that ticket alone was 340$ we were like this is a joke right

You have to understand a few things about A-Bay. First off, a performance boater or even a bar patron is still the minority up there. The tax base is million dollar houses, not beer sales. The locals wouldn't care if the town closed, short of a few nice restaurants....it is what it is. Driving any boat up there at 2 am, expect to get pulled over. The only way I would be driving a boat in that area at 2 am is if I had nothing to drink. Driving a performance boat at any time up there you better be well below BWAI of .05 as well. They have had their share of accidents that give them the right to patrol for drinking suspects in order to protect public safety. The speed limit in the river from light house south of the bridge to the light house just north of Bonnie Castle is 30 mph day and 15 mph night. So in town I stay off plane at night, it is not possible for my boat to run 15 mph. The USCG, and the NYSPP have boats right in town, and they love to pull people over. The river is a great place, A-bay is the "hot spot" but it is 5 miles of the river. You have to be cool, and quiet when in that town. Sorry for your misfortune. Bu it could have been worse, had an accident happened you would be in deep crap right now. As far as the ski boat, the law is the law, I know that ticket hurts, but we have to obey laws anywhere. If you move, and move to a bigger boating destination I can tell you the patrol will only be worse! PIB, LOTO, South Florida.....Abay is a cake walk compared to what those guys go through :D |
Oh ya I know that we need to follow the laws. I'm just saying I've been there my whole life, I've been night fishing all over the river since I was 10. We were only bar hopping in a little 20' ski boat. Cruising at like 20 maybe. I've ran from the bay to my cottage and the bars more times over the years I can remember. Never any patrols at night. I was just saying they are getting worse and worse. Specifically this year it's been real bad is all I'm saying. I'm one of those river rats. The officer had to ask me how to get back to keywaden by boat. Not justifying what happened just that it's getting worse and don't see it stopping. Like do y'all remember a few years ago about the people fishing in Canadian waters on accident how they got arrested and boat impounded etc? 4 bus how often are you up there?

I remember the impound boat, but that was canada. Revenue is down, patrol is up :) I have been up there 4 times this year, and two of the weekends were 55 degrees and pouring rain :/ |
Last weekend sucked! We pulled the boat up and it stayed on the trailer. A-bay blows, like Ron said the river is huge. I have never had any problems with law enforcement other than from light house to light house in A-bay. You should run up near us or down river the other way towards Brockville. Less jet skis, cruisers and blow boats to deal with and no cops!
