Launching at Sebago Lake

I'm planning an overnight trip to sebago lake and looking for the best place to put in. I want to make sure its alright to leave the vehicles there for the night. Any suggestions or preferences?

Water is getting low. Standish boat ramp is always good but may be too shallow depending on your trailer set up. Richardsons marina has a great deep water ramp but are not always friendly to day boaters

State park has a nice ramp too, but the channel coming out is getting shallow, but you should be fine..

Your best bet is going to be at Sebago Station in Standish. "Portland Water District". The ramp is "ok" and the docks are decent. This time of the year you shouldn't have much of a circus over there. Sebago is pretty limited on ramps for day boaters and over night trips. You would think as large as this lake is there would be more options. Don't even get me started on the bars and restaurant scene.

+1 on the State Park ramp, lower Songo is getting shallow but still plenty of water as of Sunday. Safe overnight parking as the gate is locked.

There's a bar and restaurant scene? ;)

Ouch. It is where us cool kids hang out though!

Your not kidding...too bad the locks on a summer day are such a chit show.

Is there any particular reasons that waterfront pubs and restaurants don't exist on Sebago? It's baffled me for years! Town ordinances? Seems like a lucrative business venture in my eyes..

Yup, always puzzled me too. Years back, we had Jeff's Lakeside on the west shore, rt 114. Was a busy place with good food. The building is still there but been abandoned for years.

I would have to say it's probably town politics and I'm sure the Portland Water District has something to say also.

We are planning on going this saturday. Looks like our best bet is going to be the state park. Now where to anchor? I have been on the lake a couple times but have never spent the night. Was initially thinking the basin.

Anchor off the sand bar, right near the State Park boat launch.

Yes, the inlet of the sandbar is a great spot.. There are usually a few other boats posted up with the occasional illegal bonfire on the beach.. I think we'll be down that way by noon on Sunday, if you see a black Convincor, come in over and say hi!

I'll probably be running around Sebago on Sunday also. My boat presently on the trailer, thinking on launching at the State Park ramp for the day.

How low is the songo river?

Lower Songo (Sebago side) is down but the channel is still pretty deep. Like any river, deepest to the outside of the bends. The only area you should raise drives is the mouth of the river by the sand bar. just entering Sebago Lake.

Great to meet you guys at the ramp. Too bad the weather did not cooperate. This weekend looks like it's gonna be incredible. -A bunch of us are taking the day off tomorrow, meeting up at Sissy's Island on Long Lake.

Mr Maine 09-25-2014 07:41 PM

Nice meeting and talking with you too. I was hoping to hear a little blower whine as you went by haha. It wasn't a great weekend weather wise but we made the best of it and had fun. Be on the kennebec this weekend but planning a sebago trip next summer ...
