The airboss is the guy that runs the whole show once the airshow permit is active (well, him and Homeland Security). On Thursday and Friday the air traffic controller handling that particular piece of airspace will let the pilots do almost anything as long as it won't interfere with regular air traffic. Seeing as that piece of lakeshore isn't on the approach or departure path of either airport, that means they can do anything except go supersonic. That doesn't mean they can't go trans-sonic though.
I'm not a big fan of jets but even I get chills when the sound passes me about 5 seconds after the 300 ft AGL F-18. yahoo.

There was an F-14 tomcat about 5/6 years ago on a friday practice that was doing his runs and went into the city to turn around.....we were idling along side Navy Pier when he came out of the city going out to the lake and BOOOOM! Now i have never actually heard a sonic boom before but that was THE single loudest clap of thunder from a jet i have ever heard!!! It felt like the boat was going to get ripped appart from the boom!!! way cool but scary as hell when you dont expect it!!

I hear that rain is in the forecast for Friday and Satuday. I assume the show goes on in the rain if lightning is not around?!?!?!

Back4More... where did you see that forecast? The site I follow (US Coastal Marine Forecast) shows flat waters for Friday (1' waves). Is there a predicted wind change happening on Saturday and Sunday????? We will have the kids and other newbies, so I do not want to run in 5-7s all the way up to NorthPoint.

Report I listened to on my marine band said it's supposed to blow northeast starting Friday night at 10-15...showers Friday and Sat. morning. Looks like Sunday is gonna be the best day...sunny and 81, but I hope the lake isn't chopped up...it sucks sitting around in that.

I guess we won't be going out for the practice this year. Hope to make it out Sunday.
