Default Boater missing off Navy Pier...

Uhhh...the cops and coasties are out searching for a boater right now (12:00 pm) off Navy Pier. They say he's been in the water for 4 hours....2 others were rescued alive but in critical condition after 2 hours in the water.

According to the report, it was a 16 FOOT BOAT.

Hate to say it, but sometimes people get what they deserve...here's the Marine Forecast:

SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 PM CDT THIS
AFTERNOON

THIS AFTERNOON
NORTHWEST WINDS 15 TO 25 KNOTS BECOMING WEST 10
TO 20 KNOTS. MOSTLY SUNNY. WAVES 3 TO 5 FEET SUBSIDING TO 1 TO 3
FEET LATE.

Who goes out with 3 dudes in a 16 footer in 3-5 foot waves??!!

Reminds me of the time when I was working for a marina doing a boat show in Michigan City. Lake was 8 - 10', it was so bad that you could not walk on the floating docks inside the break to work on boats. Then this sail boat comes down the channel headed out into the lake. We all stopped to watch it head out. Was only a couple of minutes and the coast guard headed out.

You would never imagine the amount of dumb things that people do...and their reasons why. It is not limited to just boating.

Welcome to the board! Always good to see local boaters on the board.

Yeah man, welcome! Where you at in TP? As you can see, Dan the Candyman is your immediate neighbor, and I used to live there before bouncing south of I-80 a couple years ago.

Dan

I am finally buying my own boat/getting a promotion. I have been a "co-owner/first mate" going out with the uncles Baja. My uncle is stepping aside and sold his Baja, so now it is my time to pony up for the family entertainment.

I am looking at Fast Forward's Powerquest 26 Legend XL. If he steps up into a 29 then I am waiting to purchase his.

We usually put in at Worth.

On occasion I trailer out to Morris and put in at Govenor Stratton. The cross currents when putting the boat back on the trailer out there are a pain, so I don't do that often. I would rather spend my time on the water, not on the highway.

My uncle had a rack slip in Pastrick for years, but when the place started having problems years back he pulled out.
