CPC Beach Party!
Here's the details:
The Rev Limiter
Unofficial Publication of the Chicago Powerboat Club
September 2007
We here at the Rev Limiter would like to express our sincere hopes that you all have been having a terrific summer on the water. We would also like to mention how amazed we are at the speed with which it has flown by…my my how summer flies by! Fortunately, there’s still time for one more event on the water…one final fling before the warmth of the summer sun fades into the past…one last grasp at good times on the blue waters of Lake Michigan…a final foray of fun with friends on the water…(oh man am I depressing myself!).
On behalf of the Chicago Powerboat Club, the Rev Limiter presents the CPC Beach Party! (wait for spontaneous applause)
Whoa…whoa…calm yourselves my children! This is going to be a great time, but it’s not for a couple weeks, so you’ll just have to hold your horses until then! Here’s the skinny:
The Date: Saturday, September 15
The Place: The Famous BOATER’S BEACH, Portage, Indiana
The Time: 11am – till you feel like leaving!
Here’s how it’s going to work:
This is going to be a FREE event (well, as free as boating gets, anyway!) All that is required is that you get there and bring a beverage and snack of your choice. The Rev Limiter will be providing a limited number of sub sandwiches…so you might want to pack your own lunch or just hope you get to the red Fountain before everyone else does!
For the uninitiated:
Boater’s Beach is located just east of Burns Harbor, Indiana (aka “The Ditch). For GPS weenies, Burns Harbor is here: 41.65 N 87.15 W (41°38'48" N 87°08'49" W). Boater’s is only accessible by boat (hence the name), and features the warm-water discharge of the former Bethlehem Steel factory…resulting in an extremely temperate (read 85 degree) lazy river to float on and enjoy.
How long will it take me to get there:
Cruising at appr. 55 mph, you can figure on about 2 minutes from Portage (Burns Harbor), 10 minutes from Michigan City, 20 from New Buffalo, 25 from East Chicago and about 40 from Chicago. Of course, this is on relatively flat water, and the Rev is making some serious approximations here, which his wife says he sucks at.
What if it rains or is too rough:
The Rev has got you covered. The rain day will be Sunday, September 16 again at Boaters, but if it’s rough that day as well, we will relocate to Beercan Beach, just to the north of Hammond Harbor inside the breakwall. There will be Rev Limitings in the days immediately preceeding the event to let you all know exactly what the plan will be.
Hope to see you all there for a final fling in the summer sun!
Later skaters,
The Rev Limiter
Got any questions? If I can answer them I will…or I’ll get you in touch with someone who can! Drop me an email at [email protected]. For up-to-date gossip on the goings-on within the CPC, check out the Chicago Powerboat Club Forum on www.offshoreonly.com.

Sweet my normal hang out I'll be there. If you want to enjoy the warm water anchor as close to the discharge as possible, highly recommened. To correct Mike this is the Nipsco discharge not Bethlehem. Another Marker is the large rock circle or donut about 100 yards off the beach. I can help with any questions as I am here every weekend. It is also a good idea to have a bow and stern anchor!

That will probably change a dozen times before next weekend.
This weekend looks great, we're heading to the harbor now.
