Setting Things Straight
Hello All.
I guess I am here to displace a few rumors that have generated.
First, it was never mine nor NIOS'S intention to exclude anyone from the Chicago Powerboat Club from this event or any other NIOC event. I am the person who usually posts our events on other clubs calendar. I guess it came to the point that only a mere few of the big pond boats hang out on the Chain (and I don't blame you, I am a big pond dweller myself and we don't take our boat on the chain anymore either). This is the only reason I did not post the River Shiver on OSO. I just did not see the interest in the Lake Michigan crowd, so I decided not to post this year. Obviously bad decision on my part. It looks as if feeling were hurt and then the rumors started.
In saying this...Yes the River Shiver is tomorrow. Any member of the Chicago Powerboat Club is invited. No we are not going down the river. The only reason we are not going down the river is that as a board we voted to support the Fox Waterway agency with their efforts to control noise and speed on the Fox River. In order to do this we voted to not take ANY of our 2008 events on the Fox River. For the 2009 season, I am sure, special permits will be in place and the spectacle of 75 boats going down the river will return.
As far as no one knowing about this event...well it has been posted on our site for over a month. All NIOC members have been receiving emails for the past 3 weeks on how and when to pre-register. If you are a NIOC member and did not get any reminder email, I suggest you get into your on-line NIOC web profile and update your email address so that you can get the club email blasts.
And finally, Yes a portion of the proceeds from the shiver will be donated to Joe to offeset the medical and funeral costs. Joe is accepting contributions. Donation checks can be made out to Joe Cardella and mailed to: In Memory of Joe Jr. Care Of NIOC P.O. Box 634 Lake Villa, IL 60046
I hope this clears up the rumors. And maybe we will see some of you tomorrow. You know, although this is a boating event, there are many big pond boaters that are doing the event by car. Just something to think about... Thanks for your time. Rose Temple NIOC Treasurer

Well said...I'm in. I understand why we wont be going down the river, but I have many friends who live on it that are disappointed. They love the parade of boats!
BTW what are the stops for this event?
