SBI officials will be in Michigan City Dec. 3, at 1 p.m. (CST) to announce the inaugural 2009 Great Lakes Super Boat Grand Prix, to take place the weekend of August 7, 8 and 9, 2009 at Michigan City’s beautiful Washington Park.
SBI President John Carbonell will officially award the race to Michigan City and LaPorte County during the press conference, which will take place in Millennium Park at - the race site – if weather permits.
An alternate site will be in place in case of inclement weather.
Thousands of spectators will watch the world’s top performing offshore powerboats roar through the waters of Lake Michigan, bringing millions of dollars in revenue to Michigan City and LaPorte County.
The race will be one of 10 sponsored by SBI in 2009 and will be one of only two held outside the Southeast United States and in fresh water.
“It’s great to have these beautiful, powerful boats on the Great Lakes and we couldn’t be happier to be the organization bringing them here,” said Jason Miller, sports development manager for the LaPorte County CVB. “We couldn’t be more excited.”

This is awesome. Magic Medicine and I were probably 10 or 11 years old when they came last time. I have pictures still in front of Reggies old race boat at the old marina where the Blue Chip is currently.

That is so cool! It sounds like the course will be off the Washington park beach? Then they could have a lot of people watch from the beach and the pier.
