Default Weekend Getaway

Hey guys, the wife and I were thinking of planning an August weekend boating trip on Lake Mich. What port would you recommend for overnighting with other close cruising destinations nearby?

August 5-8 is the SBI race in Michigan City. Come over early and you can hit New Buffalo, St. Joe, South Haven

Thanks, that one is already on the list. Can't wait to see that 34 hustler pace boat rounding the course!

Door County is a great place for a get-away.

You can always go down to East Chicago marina. Slip the boat in their harbor, and stay in the hotel at Ameristar casino next door. Nice beaches nearby, dowtown chicago a 30 minute boat ride, michigan city and new buffalo within reach. You'd have boating, food, drinks, and gambling. What else do you need!

For those that have not done it, the west coast of Lake Michigan also has a lot of great destinations. All the way to Door County as mentioned would be awesome with stops on the Illinois side at Winthrop, possibly Kenosha, and one of my favorite areas up there is Cheboygan. Absolutely beautiful with a great innerharbor that has been totally redone. Awesome resort right on the water that feels like being on Nantucket. Great restaurants in walking dist. I would definitely jaunt thru Milwaukee on the trip as well as there are a lot of boaters on here that venture out of there every weekend. Good luck, the east side is always great with the usual stops in Mich City, New Buffalo, East Chicago, all the dunes destinations, New Buffalo which is my favorite harbor over there for food, entertainment, and great people and then all the way up thru the Havens. Sounds like fun!!!
